Hello! We live between Topeka and Wichita. We have adopted children from the state of Kansas and have updated our homestudy. We were in our second staffing yesterday in less than 2 months and weren't selected again. I know our children are out there, but the wait is hard!

We're a couple hours basically north of Wichita. To my knowledge no one on this board lives very close to me at all.

Yes, about midway between Topeka and Salina, so not too far anyway.

Okay, then you must be near Manhattan. DH and I both went to K-State. Go Wildcats!!!!!!!

BTW the pic of your DD is addorable.

SAH: You must be very busy with 9 kids. I can't believe that you can find time to get on the boards to post. Good luck with finding number 10. Are you hoping for a sibling group, a baby or are you open to any situation? DH and I have thought about going through the State in a year or two so I'm very curious about your experience.

You gals are making my homesick. I live in Alberta, Canada now but I grew up in Colby and lived in Topeka for a LONG time. My Dad's fam is from the Newton area. Sigh... there's no place like home!

Sorry I just had to join in since I was born in Manhattan KS. My parents live in Salina. I love going to visit every so often. The best is visiting my parents farms that are located between Abilene and Clay Center.

I now live in Indiana.

I'm a life long student. Everytime I think I'm done with school I decide to go back. Currently I'm teaching at a high school and working on my masters degree.

Not to crash the Kansas party, but I have a legitimate tie: I spent 4 years at Bethany College in Lindsborg.

While I started out very ignorant about Kansas geography (I thought it soooooo sophisticated when people went home for the weekend to Manhattan -- how could they get to NY and back so fast?) I came to know people from every county in the state. I think I even had most of the license plate codes memorized.

Nights at the Ol Stuga, trips to Marquette for, umm, their specialty, warm weekend days at Lake Kanopolis, concerts in Salina, Wichita, or Hays. KCAC Football games at Friends, Wesleyan, McPherson, Bethel, Tabor.

...fun times!

Any of these places ring a bell with you?

KansasMomToBe, I am not really busy. Being a mom is a lot easier and less stressful for me than the full-time job I use to have! My kids' ages range from five to seventeen - three girls and six boys.

We are looking for a sibling group, but are open to other situations. Our main focus is to adopt through the fostercare system, but hubby and I have been discussing other options. We have had successful with out of state workers who recognize the pros with our family, but it's still tough due to our family size. I know for sure that I will be able to get a wealth of information on this site if we chose another route to add to our family!

We started our adoption journey in 1999, but put things on hold once I became pregnant in 2000. Our bs was eleven the time. When our bd was one, we started the adoption process again. We have had a busy five years, to say the least, but we wouldn't change it for the world! H was seven when placed with us in 2001 and J was twelve and placed in 2002, . Both were placed as fostercare placements. S {2 at the time} and D {11} were straight adoption and joined our family in 2003. We adopted my brother's bs in 2004 and A & S {straight adoptions} joined us in 2005. A was five and S was two. A is the 1/2 sibling to J. Ironically, when we first started our adoption journey, we were looking at adopting two children. If it weren't for the success of how far our children have come, we wouldn't even consider adopting again.

I have two adoptive friends that live in Wichita. They have adopted a few times through the fostercare system. In fact, one of them heads a adoptive family support group in Wichita. There is a small group of us and we try to get together twice or more a year.

SAH- DH and I used to say that we only wanted 2 kids. Now we feel as though we wouldn't mind having more. Two of our neighbors have 5 kids each and they look like they have a lot of fun. I'm sure nine keeps things exciting.
