Ok I am a little lost now. I thought it sounded so easy to go through a CI. The two I talked to said it would take about 5 weeks to get my records and then once they have that info not much time at all to locate my birthparents. Sounded good to me!!!
Well I have been reading on the boards a lot and it some people have had a bad experience with a CI. They take their money and never find the parents. When I only get one chance at doing this with a CI it make me really nervous that I am depending on a complete stranger to contact my birthparents to see if they want contact. What if the person is rude, cold.careless or damages the situation somehow. I am not sure how I would feel if someone called me and said" Your birthmother wants contact take or leave it". The other problem is I don't know if I have a choice I have no information at all except for my birthday. Which brings me to the non-identifying information. I know I could order this but the person at vital statistics said there is nothing on it that would help. The only other reason I haven't ordered it is because I was born here but adopted out of another state. I figured what would be the point of having to pull it twice if I have to go through a CI. Or if the info would get lost or delayed going back and forth from state to state. Once Washington gets my records do they keep them or does the other state only send the non identifying info? Do you have a copy of your birth certificate? This would be the altered one of course. If not, get one. You can do this by going to the vital stats office in the county you were born. From your BC you should find out the Dr that delivered, the hospital etc..You might be able to get info from them at some point. Also do you know if you were adopted through an agency? If not call the agencies in proximity to the town you were born in and ask if they handled your case. As per WA law they are supposed to disclose this info to you.
Don't let the vit stat office tell you that your non ID info won't help your search. Some info is better than none. Besides you might get more than you expected. The non Id info can have many clues that would be helpful in your search. Read some search books. Your local library should have some of these available. These books have tons of ideas. Read many of them as they all have different ideas and tactics about how to track down the info you need. ![]()
