Cool

Sara,

I was also born in Washington State except in 1970. How far have you searched?

The state does offer something called a CI, that is a third party who comes in and makes contact with the other parties. The adoption law says something along the lines that contact may be made through a CI. However they do require a fee. Also you request your nonidentifying information from the state.

If you have any other questions let me know. Maybe I can help you answer some of them. Good luck in your search.

Trina,

Thanks so much for your reply!!
I don't know about your adoption circumstances, but my birth certificate has very little info on it. To be honest I am not even sure that the birth date is correct. There is no hospital name or doctor's name on it and the parents listed are only those of my aParetns.
I have sent off for a non ID from the state, but have heard no news.
How far have you gotten? I would love to hear more and of your shared experience!!

All the best,

sara

Cool

Sara,

I must be going crazy, I thought that I had responded to message. I have been having trouble the last few days on the internet. I am not sure....

Anyhow, a few years ago I had to write to the DSHS and request my b/c and it too had limited information. However my I was younger I remember a b/c that much more info on it, but it also listed my aparents as my parents. The info had the name and the hospital and so on. Since I have moved over the years I lost some important papers on my adoption that my amom had kept for me.

Currently, I am using an agency called WARM, Washington Adoption Reunion Movement. For a fee the agency will petition the courts to get your records and then they will obtain the adoption file. Then the file is assigned to a CI, a 3rd party, which will try and locate your bparents. The agency will also get your non-identifying information (I also lost this information over the years). Right my petition is at the court waiting for a judge to sign it so my records can be accessed.

Also I registered with the ISSR, it is a free registry. Many other people told me to register with them. As far as your birthdate being changed, maybe in your adoption file that information is there. I remember my amom telling me that they could have changed my bdate if they wanted too. That sounds so strange to me.

I would love to hear about your search also. Since we seem to have some common background. It always helps to have support.

Tommorrow I am leaving on vacation for a few days. Let me know how things are going.

Take Care,

Trina

Trini,

Thank you. It has been so nice to have someone to reply to in the same boat.
So, First question: what is the ISSR? I have not heard of that yet.
I will also look into registering with WARM. Hopefully they will have something to offer if my non ID from the state does not come up with anything.

I don't know about you, but I am also in a place where I cannot speak to my A/parents about any of this. I am sure if there was more open communication I would be able to get more info. It has been a very delicate subject over the years. I do have a understanding of them feeling hurt or threatened by it, but I don't think one can adopt a child and then not have them want to ask questions.

Where were you adopted from in Washington? And was it done through an agency?

Hope you have a nice time away. Speak soon.

Sara

Cool

Sara,

Beginning to search is a hard thing, it takes out a lot of you (emotional).

Here is a little bite of information.

1. The ISRR (not ISSR) is called the International Soundex Reunion Registry. The have a website it is www.isrr.net, go to the site and I believe that you can an application to register. Then mail it to them so you can placed into the registry.

2. Here is a website for WARM, www.warmsearch.org. On their site is some information on how to get in contact with them. You call them leave a message and request an application.

They mailed out my application fairly quick. I filled it out and sent them a fee. After they sent me some petitions to sign and return.

I am trying to find out what it is like to work with a CI. I have heard some different things. But with the way the law is set up in Washington it sounds like using a CI is a quick way to do the search.

My afamily supports my search (in fact most of them know). I am sorry that your aparents are not so receptive. But I will am here to try and help.

I was born in Seattle in 1970 and was adopted through the state. How about you? How much background information do you?

I will be back on towards the end of the week and will check back then. Have a great week.

Trina,

Thank you so much for all the info!!! I will get on to all of them this week.

I was born in Spokane and adopted from there as well. Strange to think that is where I always have to say where I was born. I have never actually been there ( well obviously once ). I have wanted to begin the search sooner in my life, but i was raised in Europe so it always seemed very daunting to me. Now I am back in the States and I feel it is easier to begin my search.
And Yes, it is very emotional. I find that every step I take in getting closer the emotions run high.

Oh, you are so lucky to have the support of your a/family! My a/family are actually really great, just not open to this.

So how far have you gotten in you search?

Speak soon.

Sara

Cool

Sara,

I was just wondering if you had gotten any more information. Was your adoption private or was it through that state? So did you grow up in Europe? If you did that must have been a neat experience. How did you come to live in Europe?

I grew up in small town about 60 miles outside of Seattle. It is amazing how adoptees can end up in such different places then they were adopted from.

Right now I am still on vacation, so I don't know if I have any new information.

Take Care,

Trina

Trina,

I have gotten no more info. I coulnd't tell you if my adoption was private or through an agency. I am still trying to fit the peices together from conversations, however vague they were, over the years. Like I said it is a very hard and nearly impossible subject to broach with my a/parents.

I did grow up in Europe. Funny to think a girl born in Spokane speaks with an English accent. My life really has been so wonderful b/c of the oppertunites I was given due to my adoption. I have only just recently moved to the States. I did spend some time in Seattle though when I was a teenager.

One of my closest friends is adopted, and after years of not knowing anything of her heritidge, her mother dropped the bomb on her a few days ago that she is American Indian mix. It was such a shock for her to have out of the blue at the age of thirty. What an amazing thing to find out.
The main reason for my own search is to find those details and to know my medical history. Like anyone who doesn't know.

I did try to register with the Irrs, but my printer is broken, so I can't send the application in. Did you have any luck with them?

Hope you are having a nice time away!! Speak to you soon.

Sara

Cool

Sara,

I am back from vacation and had a great time. Who could not enjoy 30 miles of white beach and 95 degree weather. The hotel was right on the ocean and even had an oceanview.

How was your week? Do you know how long it takes to get your non-indentifiying info?

I did register with the ISSR and have not heard anything. Maybe if you called them they could mail you an application.

Also I called the search agency to get an update. However I still haven't heard anything back I will call again Monday.

Take Care,

Trina

Trina,

WOW, your holiday sounds great. I could really use one of those.

Good idea about calling the IRRS and getting them to send me an application.

So I was told that the non ID could take up to 6 months to be proccessed. And that the six months could be the minimum amount of time. Of course it could take less time as there are always exceptions. So I am in for a wait.

Thanks for the support.

Sara.

Cool

Sara,

Hi, how is everything going? Things are going great here.

I called the agency and left a message late last week. They called back and said that they are requesting my original b/c from the state. However the department that handles this has recently moved. So it may take longer than expected.

I am getting tired of waiting.

I hope that you get your nonidentifying info back soon. Wow, six months that seems like a long time, but I guess that it could be longer.

How long ago did you request it?

Take Care,

Trina
