I am 38 almost 39 years old.I have 3 wonderful children,one graduated from high school last year,one is graduating in 3 weeks and last but never least one in 7th grade.I was adopted in the state of New York back in 1965 or 66.Both of my adoptive parents are deceased.I don't have any information except my name was changed completely,I was born in Suffern NY,Rockland County and that Rockland County Social Services handled the adoption.
I have felt so lost for a long time now without any parents.My oldest daughter is getting married April 2005 and she has no one really to sit on her side in the church.I would like to find my birth parents and see if they would talk to me.I have some medical problems starting to show up and when I go to the doctors they ask all the questions about did anyone parent have this or that and I tell them I don't know I am adopted.

Could someone give me information on how to get started ??? Also, I just got laid off from my job so I don't have alot of money,does it cost alot to get this started ??? I just got off the phone with Reunite People they want 350.00 to start....I just can't do that at this time.

hi!

you'll want to get your non identifying information from the state your adoption was finalized in. If you were adopted through an agency they would have it, also vital records is where I got mine from in california.

You can sign up with state registries, and www.isrr.net, also getting involved in a search / support group in your area can be REALLY helpful through the searching process....

keep a journal of everything you do! it will be very helpful.

this site has the laws and addresses of all the states in the U.S. for where to write when getting started, but its kind of hard to get through, they're site map isn't the best..if you need help let me know by PM'ing me!

Thank you for responding to me.I have joined ISRR,I called Rockland County DSS they gave me a number to call I did that they got my mailing address and said they would send me a form to fill out for my non-id info.I am waiting on that.The adoption went thru Rockland County DSS.

Anything else I need to do while waiting ?????

You can also register with the Dept of Health Reunion Registry...

Request both Non-ID and ID info. I did 2 months ago, it turned out my bMom was also registered and I should have her name address and phone number by the end of this week.

Hi my name is Paulette and I also was adopted. I was born in 01-23-65. I got my information from the new york city adoption registry. Also if and Spence Chapin Handled your adoption you can go to Spence Chapin.com and get the phone number and call them and they will give you some information about your adoption.I also was born in New York City and it seems like most of the adoptions were done by Spence Chapin located in Manhattan between the years of 1965&2004. I wish you well in finding your birthparents your not along my adopted parents die also.

Thank you for responding Paulette.I was born in Rockland County.I have sent for the non-id info am waiting.Dept of Social Service is who handled it,they aren't very helpful right now.Hope your search is doing well.

Hi this is Paulette again my search is going well. I maybe reunited with my mother some time this year in Aug. She was found in New York City doing well. I have and older brother I did not know I had. Right now they are getting in contact with her to see if she what to talk to me and if so we will be reunited. I know everything will go well. I will be very happy to see her and let her know that I'm not upset with her because she did the right thing . Because she was to young when she had me. I hope verything is going well with your search. I will be Praying for you.

We will stay in touch with each other to help each other with our search next I'm going to search for my birth dad. I'm hopeing when I meet my mom she would tell me more about him all I know he atteneded a commuinty college in new york city and he was 20 years old when she had me she was only 17.
