Thumbs up

try contacting the agency that handled the adoption. give them all the info that you have about your b.parents. Ask them to help you locate and to give them your info when they are found. that way, if they want to meet you, they will come to you Don't give up hope, and be patient.

I would suggest going to the Hospital in person. You are entitled to your medical records, and there may be other information there to help you. Find out who the doctor was and ask him for your birth records. Get some books out of the library about how other adoptees searched and found. there are a lot of good tips in those books. good luck.

Hi

Have you tried writing to request your birth records from the hospital?

There are many great books on adoption search and also great sites on the computer with ideas for you.

The "search guru" on this forum also has many ideas.

You've gotten a lot of good suggestions. One thing I would caution you, don't mention adoption. Just request info for medical and family history reasons. Good luck.

Thumbs down Wow!

$$$$$$800.00!!!!!!!! for WHAT?

In Michigan, we have the CI program which is similar to having the agency make contact ~ they're both doing the same thing! In Michigan the cost is only $250.00

That is insane . . . what on earth would they need $800.00 for . . . ??

I don't know about Illinois (but am now interested to find out) . . . but in Michigan I was told by the adoption agency that they were only allowed to tell me what 'county court' the adoption papers were actually filed through where I could receive 'NON-identifying' info for $60. They also said that the adoption finalization has to take place in the county that the adoptive parents lived at that time. Is this a possibility? Do you know the county that your parents lived when the adoption was finalized? I mean, think about it, you can't just 'change someone's' identity and not TELL anyone, right? It HAS to go through a court. This would be true in anyone's case.

Did you talk to the Searchguru?

I agree that $800 sounds awfully high. The agency that handled my adoption, also located in Illinois, charged me $375.

I posted my search info on another adoption web site and was contacted by someone who did searches and has access to birth indexes for the State of Illinois. She found my daughter's adoptive name in less than a day! She said it's easier to find if birth was not in Chicago but other smaller towns in IL. If you're interested I have her email address. Let me know. You can send me a PM "private message." God Bless

Hum
