I had a closed adoption and other than going through the agency it seems most avenues for contact are cut off for me as well.

Ask for all of your non identifying information. I had to pay $50.00 for mine from Catholic Social Services.
I also got it for free from the State of Illinois. |

some free sites are excellent
Only join free sites, and read posts first to see what kind of people are on there, and how they behave.
I had good results (5 weeks) w/ one. Not only did they find my son, they deleted all the info from their site once we were "found." I had started by joining my state groups, but guess what?! -- the adoptive family had moved away, and a website with angels across the country found him quickly and quietly. Good luck!
