I just received my birth son's birth certificate in the mail
Someone at one of the reunion sites suggested I get my birth son's birth certificate, so if and when there was a reunion that I (or we) could make sure we were mother and son since there could be more than one child born in that hospital on that day.
I ordered it, not sure what it would say or if they would even send it to me. It has his date of birth, adoptive parents name and their places of birth, city where he was born and the date it was filed. Please forgive me for asking a stupid question, but why did I think it would have my name on it?? I'm also not quite sure how it "proves" we are mother and child? My name is nowhere. It was recorded August 8, 1969, only 8 days after he was born, but I didn't sign the "Surrender of Control of Infant Child" with Catholic Charities until the end of August. Is August 8, the day that his birth certificate w/ me listed as his mother was recorded? ![]()

My birth certificate has my adoptive parents names on it, dated from the original filed date. My adoptive mom I have now legally adopted me when I was 10. It may be that is just how it is done. My birth cert reads as if she gave birth to me.
Hope this helps. |

Mine had a different date on it as well. Not the one my b-mom signed the papers. I have talked to people who say they try to make it appear as this is your "ONLY" birth certificate. Especialy in the 60's when I was born.

This would be the ammended birth certificate you were sent. There should also be an original birth certificate in a sealed file, I believe in the county where your child was born. This would list your name on it as the mother, etc., and it is the harder document to get....although sometimes a copy of the original birth certificate will be sent out in place of the ammended one, by mistake. Not often, though!
There are a few states that allow unrestricted access to the original birth certificate, but I think there's only about 5 of them. Last edited by California_Chris : 07-17-2009 at 06:04 PM. |

Getting birth child's birth certificate
I have been trying to help my friend ,who is a birth mother, find her son for almost 13 yrs. I just found this website and registered her information. I saw your post. Is it possible for her to get his birth certificate with his new name on it? I don't know how else we will find him if we don't know what his new adoptive name is. Thanks.
