Will you get a referral before 9/1?

I was logged in on 4/9/07 so my agency says I will get Layla's referral. Hopefully in the next batch of referrals they get.

What about you guys? What are your agencies saying?

The number of countries to adopt from are just shrinking.

I know. I was hoping to adopt from Vietnam one day.
Sadly the amount of children who need homes and families is not.

I hope you get your referral as fast as possible.

Yash,

I am right on the edge. I may, I may not. It was hard to hear, but happy my coordinator was honest with me about it.

our agency clearly told us that we will NOT make the deadline. They work in three provinces one is not giving ANY referrals to US families, the second is only for special needs and currently have no children and the third has no children to speak of.

So thatis it for us. We are most likely going to transfer our adoption to another country.

unfortunately we also will not be getting a referral it looks like. I am looking into other options, but I fear everything "might be the next Guatemala" or the "next Vietnam". UGH! The waits are so long, I have been waiting almost a year for Vietnam, we started last march and got logged in around now, so I hate that I lost a year! What can you do? I just pray for the children and that the referred children make it home soon! Good luck to everyone!

What other countries are you guys looking at?

I'm in to the bitter end. Do you think there's anything we could do to help change everyone's mind? No country has 100% of their adoptions above the board, it's not possible. Why is VN and Guatemala being punished? Why aren't the bad agencies, the suspicious agencies being dealt with? Why aren't they added? I feel like this is another case of a few wrecking it for the whole? UGH! And once again the kids are the ones that suffer.

Hi Yash,

I tried to PM you and it came back. Did you read the post from Dick?

I am also sticking it out. My heart is in VN and I pray that my daughter is also.

Waiting for a referral, praying for the best.

There is a Buddhist saying about adoption...
It basically says you and your husband must have loved your baby very much in your previous life, that you were able to find her again in this life.

Unhappy no referral for us

Our agency clearly and firmly told the 29 families without a dossier in Vietnam over a month ago that we would not be able to get a referral in time. They told the families of those who had dossiers in Vietnam in March that they would most likely get a referral and complete their adoption. I respect them for their honesty, even though I hate the message.

We began in Guatemala and switched to Vietnam last March when the warning came out from DOS about Guatemalan adoptions. We were told at that time we could easily complete an adoption in Vietnam. We are now wondering where to go next... at 43 with minor health issues and 3 special needs adopted children our choices seem so limited. Our 3 boys are domestic adoptions from foster care, but I want a daughter under the age of 2. So we went international this time...

Normally I am the one telling people everything is okay and we can work with this bump but, I am needing words of encouragement and my local friends are ready for us to quit. Cindy

oh Cindy, I'm so sorry. I always wanted to adopt internationally, but after going through the nightmare that is fost/adopt I really thought VN would be my "easy" adoption. The joke is on me. Is fost/adopt totally out for a little girl? What about Russia?

Yash,

I am sticking it out until 9/1, then I will go to plan B... grieve, get a house (my condo is small and I want to park next to my front door) and get settled and start looking at my options for starting the adoption dance again.

Okay, I am coming over from the Guatemala board.

Look at all those folks who accepted referral near the December cut off. They are in hell. They have no idea if their adoption will go on. The government there has shut down for a month all adoptions. These people were told that they would be "grandfather" in.

Look, just be very sure that you can take the stress and the not knowing. Just because you have a referral does not mean that you will bring a child home. I have seen so many folks just not pay attention to the warnings.

If you go forward then do so with the thought that things might not work out.

Best wishes to all those in waiting.
Mary
