We found out today, from our agency, that we are in the group that "will likely receive a referral before Sept. 1st." I don't know whether to jump for joy or worry that something will cause a snag and we won't make it. I guess I am too scared to get my hopes up.

We also found out today that the last 2 documents that were sent to the VN consulate were lost there. So I am going to be rushing around like a chicken minus a head tomorrow to replace them. Sheesh!

There is a Buddhist saying about adoption...
It basically says you and your husband must have loved your baby very much in your previous life, that you were able to find her again in this life.

Murdoc - did your agency talk to you about FAE? Are you concerned about that at all? What ages are you looking at?

Teri - I'm praying all of us that are in it for the long haul can bring home our babies. It seems strange though that we're in this limbo. My mom wants to take a trip May 2009 and I'm wondering if I should say yes.

Bachmas - I'm glad you made the cut.

I've pretty much just decided to continue on with my life and pray for a good outcome. I've decided to go to Scotland in July, so that will help take my mind off of things.

No, I don't think we areworried about FAE. We know it could be a problem but we are going to rely on the adoption doctors to guide us in those respects.

We are at a point in our adoption where we are going to have to rely on faith and the advice of professionals. But in the end, we have agreed that we will not bite off more than we can chew just to have son.

Also, in retrospect, my brother was adopted and considered an "at risk child". His mother had commited sucide and his father had serious mental problems... but he is perfectly sound and I am proud to have him as my brother. In the end he was and always is a man of his own and not the frightening prospect the SW projected him to be.

Maybe we should be wery of things like FAE. But "at risk" is just that... "at the risk of" and not "100% sure to be"

If you are worried about a child with FAE, I would suggest that you talk with some adoptive families whom have already taken that risk.

Yash,

You are more than welcome. I got in on a great deal with some people renting a house. I am so ready to go and just have fun and not worry about anything till I am back.

Thanks Sue! I haven't been on a real vacation in years. It's going to be nice, especially with the weather here hitting the 110s and all.

I got my referral this week. Just wanted to share some happy news. And while I do agree that this is far from a done deal, I also know that Guatemala and VN have different issues and systems that brought them to a halt. I dear friend adopted and has just returned from Guat. with her son.

Just wanted to offer a different perspective.

We were also very fortunate to get a referral last month. Our I-600 should be submitted in about 2 weeks.
I have to say, I feel much better about this adoption completing than I felt about DD's process completing last year in Guatemala. It takes a lot to scare me these days.
