Question INS-So Lost

Ok, Here goes, my fingerprints expire July 19, 2007 and my 171H expires January 25, 2008 and I assume my 1-600A expires in october because I have no paper work (or at least I dont think I have) that I have even filed a !-600a, but I know I did.
I have to redo, or update, my homestudy (which I am in the process of waiting for FBI background again).
OK, now what? Do I refile a I600a? Do I send money? Do I need to refile to get fingerprints done? I called INS and I swear, she was the new girl, says go to a Center on any Wednesday and ask them. That was the end answer. Now, I would call my local agency rep. but she makes me feel stupid.

Does any one have an idea of what I am taking about because I dont!!! Please help!

You submitted the I-600A and got your fingerprints done in order to receive a I-171H. You do not have to do the I-600a again.

Are you switching over from China? If so, you file an I-824(?) to change countries (I think it was $200?).

Our fingerprints expire on 7/14/07. We were told to and did send a letter to our USCIS office (NYC) and asked them for a fingerprint appt. We got the appt. in the mail and could not go on that day (last Wednesday). It says on the notice that if you cannot go on the day of your appt., then to go on any Wednesday because that is walk in day.

Sorry to hear and I feel your frustration. Unfortunately, I don't know the answer. I would still ask your agency. That is part of the service you pay them for. They shouldn't make you feel stupid because we are all "stupid" when it comes to international adoption . And even if they make you feel stupid, just think of your future child. What is more important: not looking stupid or adopting a child. You'll be fine.

Are you switching over from China(or other country) or doing a concurrent adoption? I would only file the I-824 if you are switching countries. The I-824 changes the country on your I-171H. We sent a letter to USCIS and asked to get re-fingerprinted. They gave us an appt. and all was taken care of.

I believe you need to get your Home Study updated before you switch or do a concurrent adoption though. USCIS usually requires it to complete the I-171H or I-824 (possibly).

Our Social Worker helped us get the answers. Our agencies didn't tell us much.

I looked around and I believe you are doing a concurrent adoption. If this is so, USCIS and our SW told us NOT to file an I-824 because it could screw up our China adoption. We filed a seperate I-600A which in turn gives us our I-171H for Vietnam. Either way, you would need to re-file for a I-171H unless your original one stated 2 children on it.

We have a I-171H for China and one for Vietnam. I know of people who have done the I-824 also, but we were advised not to.

Good Luck!
