Talking New and Hopeful family

Hello everyone!

I would just like to take this chance to say hello and introduce myself to everyone. My husband and I are just getting started with our adoption and we have our sights set on adopting a son from Vietnam. We have wanted to adopt from the begining however things haven't been ideal for that until now.

You see, my husband is French, I'm American and we currently live in the UK! We also have a 9 month old natural-born daughter (her name is Kitty) so you can see how hard it was to find an agency that would be willing to work with us... however that has changed!

We just got the "ok" from an agency that is willing to help us with our adoption plans and we are currently waiting for the first set of applications to come in from America.

Needless to say we are excited and worried at the same time. So I thought that joining this group would help me and my family get some inside advice and support for the long adventure that awaits us.

I'm looking forward to chatting with all of you in the future and I'm glad to have found you!

Sincerely,
Murdoc

Welcome!

Murdoc, that's great news that it is all going to work out for your family! Hopefully your process will be quick and smooth.

Thanks,

It would be nice if it did go quickly, but we don't have our hopes up.

In the meantime we have been looking for ways to fill in the time where the "waiting" is supposed to be. We booked a humanitarian vacation in Vietnam for October which should be great.
It should give us a chance to know our child's country better as well as it's needs. We are looking forward to the trip and hope we can help as many familys as we can while we are there!!!!!!

Just a questions though.... for anyone whom has already adopted from Vietnam... what's the "real" time it took for you, from the application till the day you brought him/her home?

Iv'e heard of anywhere from 9 months to 2 years..... and 9 months seems so unreal

anyway talk to you all later!

On another note (didn't mean to change the subject) are you planning on raising your son bilingual?

Babystork,

We are completely bilingual at home. Even though we live in the UK, our home language is French. It's really important to us to teach our children all about our two cultures including the languages.

Our little girl is only 9 months now so there isn't much feed back on the difficulty of this choice. However she seems to recognise many different words in both English and French. We will have to wait and see.

We learned that Vietnam has a great relationship with France as well as the US, and many of the verbal language sounds are the same as they are in French. There is a chance that our son will already be speaking so we will introduce French first, if only to make changing over languages a little easier.

In the end we hope to raise a happy bilingual family ... or at least that is our goal.
