Hi, we're new to this forum, adopting from Vietnam and living in Maryland. I've loved reading all of the posts for the past few months so I decided to jump in.
We were told by the agency that the letter we received from the state police in the mail was all we need. But I noticed some people seem to be getting letters from their local police department. What do I need? ![]() |

I think it depends on how long you have lived where you are at. For us, since we get transferred often we went to the state police for our background checks. It was easier than going to everywhere we had lived in the past 5 years. We needed fingerprints for our background check from Oregon so we went to our local police station to be fingerprinted and then sent the cards in with our request. For some states you can request the background check over the internet, like here in Washington, very easy.
