Document expiration?
Hope someone here can help. We are currently waiting to bring home our son from China. We would like to adopt again next year from Vitenam. When gathering our dossier for China, many of the documents have an "expiration date". Like birth certificate could not be more than 6 months old. Is it the same for Vietnam? We would like to start paperchasing so that our process can go quicker once we start.
TIA! |

I emailed the company I am possibly going to use with the same question. I would also like to start the paper chase earlier because of where I live and the time i believe it will take to get the appropriate paperwork!

Dossier paperwork for Vietnam is time-sensitive. Our agency asked us to wait until a certain point in our process before starting to gather the forms.

This is the response I received from FTIA
Vietnam and Guatemala are similar to China in their time sensitive documents. With Guatemala, the birth certificate, marriage certificate and any divorce decrees must be less than 6 months old from their date of issue to the time they are received at the Secretary of State's office. Vietnam has 6 month time limits on the Home Study, Medical certificate, employment letter and police report- from date of issue to the date the documents are submitted to Vietnam. These documents will have a specific format so you will not be able to get them in advance. |

Have the new rules gone into effect yet, because I've heard from various sources that the new time limit was going to be 12 months, but I'm not sure if that's ever been finalized yet...

That seems to be the question
Our agency doesn't believe the documents will expire once they are logged in. However, as our agency coordinator is fond of saying... 'International adoption is unpredictable and we should prepare for changes'.
