Hi everyone,

I'm new to the board, well, returning to the boards My dh and I starting researching adoption a couple of years ago and then surprisingly became pregnant and had a beautiful son Sept 05. We've always wanted to adopt and are starting the research again. last time I was on the boards, Vietnam adoptions were closed. When did they open back up? How are everyone's processes going? Our biggest hurdle will be financial. What is the average cost including travel now? And the average time from beginning to end? I know all this varies, but if someone would email/pm your thoughts that would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome back You can check our timeline on our blog (listed in my siggie). Vietnam adoptions opened up again at the end of 2005, with most agencies receiving their licenses in the spring of 2006. Our process has been very smooth, after a switch from Korea. Our dossier is currently being authenticated and then we'll be on our agency's waiting list for a baby girl. We expect to wait 6-9 months for a referral, and then there is a 4-6 month wait for travel. We're estimating our total costs, including travel, will run around $25,000. It will take us (if things go as planned) around 18 months to complete the adoption from first app to arrival home. We're waiting for a baby girl, so that adds a few months to the timeline. I would say $25,000 is a fair estimate, depending on the hotel you choose.

I was looking at 12 months (approx) start to finish since we're accepting either gender, but because of the typhoon, I believe things are slowing down a bit over there...

I concur on the 25k and we're hoping a year for an infant boy.
