1040 Homestudy/Dossier ?
Does the 1040 have to be the same in the homestudy and the dossier? I am debating about starting my homestudy soon but I think by the time I finish it and start working on my dossier I will have filed my taxes again so I am not sure if I need to get my dossier done while working on the homestudy so they will be done about the same time. Any help/info would be great

Our 1040 was not required as part of the dossier. Letters from our employers needed to state our annual salary and hours worked.

Thanks for the info. I looked at the paperwork required and I didnt see the 1040 on there. I think maybe I got confused with the country I was thinking of before I decided on Vietnam. |

I think what may be confusing you is that you must bring three years of tax forms to the U.S. Embassy when you travel, along with the I-864 Affidavit of Support, if your child is coming home on an IR-4 visa.
Most children from Vietnam come home on an IR-3 visa, which means that both spouses in a married couple, or a person adopting as a single, travel to the country and see the child before a final decree of adoption is issued. In this case, you do NOT need to bring tax forms or the I-864 to the U.S. Embassy when you go to get your child's visa after adopting him/her, although some agencies prefer that you do so, just in case a question is raised. An IR-4 visa is given in any case where all relevant parents do NOT see the child before a final decree of adoption is issued abroad. Thus, it is given if only one spouse in a married couple travels and completes the overseas adoption, if neither parent travels and the child is escorted, if a judge finalizes the adoption before the parents travel, or if the child is being brought to the U.S. under a decree of guardianship for adoption here. (Some of these situations are not applicable in Vietnam.) Hope this helps. Sharon
