Umbrella Agencies
I am currently in the Russia program and am considering switching to Vietnam as my I-171h is coming up for renewal very shortly. I was hoping to use my current agency to avoid paying fees to a new agency. However, it appears my agency is not licensed in Vietnam and is partnered with an agency who is. I have been told to avoid this type of arrangement but no one has been able to articulate why.
Does anyone have any information on what the issues might be?

To my knowledge, the Vietnam government does not allow umbrella-ing. I believe it's their law - all agencies are required to be licensed directly with the Vietnamese govt.

I agree with the other posters.
Americans MUST use an agency licensed by the Vietnamese government. Vietnam does NOT allow Americans to do private adoptions or adoptions through facilitators. It does NOT allow "umbrella" relationships. Sharon
