Think of Vietnam
My hubby and I just learned about India's no lower age restrictions, then had our heart brokens to learn that just recently they changed the requirement to 30+! We are now seriously considering Vietnam as it is the only other option seriously available to us at 22 (Asia is a must, but travel times for the Slovic nations are too long for us to work with).
I've heard some scary things from the Veitnam program since it's reopening - such as children with seroius, undisclosed health issues, and some major corruption. This greatly concerns us, has anyone successfully been able to complete a Vietnamese adoption since it's reopening? And can anyone explain to me how severe/frequent the above problems have been? Would anyone be able to give me any information on Families Thru International Adoption? (Vietnam or otherwise). This is our most feesable option as they are in-state and don't claim to have an age restriction.

There have been quite a few VN adoptions completed since the reopening. Not sure where you are getting your info, but so far I haven't heard of anything major going on with LICENSED agencies. I have heard of several issues taking place with UNLICENSED agencies however. It is a newly reopened program so there are going to be a few wrinkles still to iron out, but so far things are looking VERY good I'm excited to see how thing do in the next 6 months or so The only thing I have seen change over the last couple of months is that some regions are not scheduling the G&R ceremony until after you arrive in country and this is making the trip stretch out into 3 weeks for some families. This is not all agencies or all orphanges, just certain regions in VN. So if you are worried about time constrants you might want to talk to your agency about this and see if the orphange they are working with lie in one of these areas. If you are really going to pursue a VN adoption I would suggest you join 2 yahoo groups "a-parents-vietnam" and "adoption_agency_research" They are both great groups with lots of info to share. The last one is for PAP & APs ONLY no agency trolls allowed. You can openly talking about both good and bad experiences with an agency ON the list itself!! I've learned alot, and learn which agencies to avoid, and which have good programs.

I'd like to second what DreamingAzure has posted! It is because of her advice that I checked into Adoption Agency Research. I was already a part of the APV list. There is a wealth of info out there to explore and research so that you will be an informed future a-parent.

I'd like to second the above posts. You can really learn a lot by joining the groups. That might help allay some of your concerns.

I am a member of the Agency Reseach one, but I can't find the other. Can anyone tell me the direct link to the group (I tried looking it up by name, International Adoptions, and Vietnam).
