Minimum Income Requirements

Does anyone know if Vietnam has specific minimum income requirements for a married couple? I have seen agencies that require 125% of the national povety guidelines, and other that have said $30,000. My husband is in the military and I'm not quite sure if we would quite cut it if it is $30,000.

I think the minimum income requirement is set by the agencies. My agency doesn't have an income requirement.

Federal law says 125% of the national poverty level.

Anything OVER that is agency induced. SOME agencies require single women to make 50K(which I find to be VERY silly)

BUT I think there is a different income chart for Military families!! I'll try and find it for you!

Thanks for the replies. A military chart would be great. I know with all of the allowances that we get (food, housing, clothing, combat pay) we make enough. All that pay is tax-free though, so it's not included on our W-2. But I am sure differency agencies have worked with military couples and would understand and be familiar with this?

I think that income is one of the most un-important criteria's for adopting. If you have any sort of a reasonable income I think you are eligable to adopt.

Where there is a will there is a way.

Our agency took our income, number of children in the household and ages to the officials in Vietnam because we were under the age of 25 they wanted us to make at least 10,000 per family member. I don't think they normally check this but they wanted to make SURE we wouldn't go any further with the Vietnam program unless we were completely fine with the Vietnamese authorities.

The USCIS sets income limits and the different countries may have their own. You can find the chart on the USCIS web site. Our agency does not have any income requirement beyond that of the USCIS as far as I know.
