I've heard that the the country fee is going to 12-15k making VN adoption almost as expense as Russia, that you will no long be allowed to adopt 2 children at once, and that singles will be limited like in China and they are going to raise the age requirement as well...
BUT I have also heard that NOTHING will change but the paperwork on the VN side of things. I'm keeping up the faith...hoping that they aren't changing much of anything except the paperwork!!

I really don't think anyone knows yet what the specifics will be. It is very premature to start speculating.
While I know it is difficult to be patient, when you really want to adopt, you will probably have to wait till the beginning of next year, if not later, before deciding whether Vietnam will be right for you. Sharon

I do not know about the adoption fee, it has not been set yet, it must be agreed by the Vietnamese.
There will be no restriction on singles adopting, no quota's It will be possible to adopt twins, or 2 children same family. Age limits will not change, same as before. Documentation is much the same as before. Please see links below for Irish/Vietnamese adoption paperwork. US. will be much the same. http://www.vinaf.ie/preadopt.htm http://www.vinaf.ie/papers.htm All papers must be notorised etc. |

My sister is in the process of adopting from Vietnam as we speak. Her Agency has told her that they are very close to getting their license (Vietnam has promised they will have it very, very soon). The price for the Adoption has gone up $5000 since the original quote they gave her a couple of months ago. This really stinks, since her loan doesn't cover the extra.

I do hope that your sister has not sent any money to the agency.
It is extremely risky to send money to an agency that does not yet have a license to operate in a country requiring licensure or accreditation. Even the most reputable agency can get turned down -- often after being given all sorts of assurances that acceptance is just around the corner. It is also extremely risky for a person to send money to an agency before all the details of its program in a country are known. As an example, the agency may find, in the course of getting licensed, that its expenses, or families' expenses, will be much higher than originally anticipated. For example, it could be required to maintain an office in the country or its families could be required to pay higher than expected finalization fees. If the agency's expenses are higher than expected, it will have to pass some of the cost on to adopting families. And if the families' costs are going to be higher than expected, some will choose to bail out and seek another country. So ALWAYS be cautious with a new program. Wait until all the details are known, or you could find that you have made some rash spending decisions. Sharon

The link below is a guide to the requirements to the new agreement that is being negotiated between the US & Vietnam.
This is the Irish agreement which is also very similar to the French, Italian and Danish agreements. The US agreement will be very much the same. The fees to be charged are being negotiated at the moment. http://www.vinaf.ie/preadopt.htm |
