Rebecca, We were also looking at Guatemala and Vietnam when we decided to adopt, but we eliminated Guatemala due to the higher cost. I can't really tell you what drew us to Vietnam, but the more we looked into it, the more we knew it was the right choice. Our agency was great, and we loved the time we spent in Vietnam. If your mom adopt him as her son before you sponser her over. When your mom is coming to US, she can bring along her (unmarried son)under 18 yr old. I am not too sure about this, may be you can find out more from these Catholic Social Group. Or ask a lawyer about this. Please let me know, if it works.

My agency told us it was all dependant on if you are a type A ot type B person. Vietnam tends to have pretty standard rules, regulations etc and the referral and travel time come pretty quickly. Hoever, you must take two trips and the secind trip is about 2 weeks in length. Guatamala has a very quick referral time, however, your wait to travel can be enormous! Apparently, there are only a few lawyers in the country that take care of the international adoptions. If you are in the USA, your travel to get there will be alot quicker though and you will only have to stay for about 5 days. So it really all depends on what you prefer. Tammy
