Hello All,
We are both from Florida. My husband and I are both Vietnamese. We do speak and write Vietnamese but we know nothing about the adoption process. I have endo and not able to conceive :-( . My husband and I both want to adopt a baby from Vietnam but does not want to go through an agency (it costs too much). Is there a website or place I can go to get more information how I get started? We do have aunts and uncles who live in Vietnam so if we need any help from them it should not be an issue. I read from other threads that a baby there must be declared orphan from Vietnam in order for us to proceed. But, what kind of paperwork do I need to do with the government there in Vietnam and the government here in the US? Thank you so very much in advance. Michelle |

At this point, Americans are not allowed to adopt from Vietnam. The State Department is working with the Vietnamese government on an agreement that would let adoptions restart. But things are going very slowly, and it's not clear when any restarting would occur. Both the U.S. government and the Vietnamese government have significant issues that they want addressed.

adopt a NON orphan child
Hello,
My husband and I are both Vietnamese. We know people in Vietnam who is willing to give up their baby to us but I don't know what the process is like since the baby is not an orphan. Can I still adopt this baby without going through an agency and all? and if yes, how? Thanks VN |

Vietnamese adoption to Ireland is handled by one facilitator. It is not an agency. The lady is Vietnamese, she is a US citizen. Vietnamese nationals are not allowed to be facilitators. Under the new MOU, I think the days of adoption agencies are finished. The US government will set up a central authority for handling inter-country adoption. The adoption facilitators will be appointed by this authority and agreed with the Vietnamese justice ministry. The facilitator will charge a set fee which is pre-agreed. The fee charged to Irish adopters is around $9,000, flights and accomodation are extra. It now takes 6 months to get a referral, time in Vietnam is 3/6 weeks.
The Irish Facilitator is My Linh Soland, You can contact her and I am sure she will help you with any questions. Her e-mail is mylinhsoland@yahoo.com Has anyone got Maura Harty's e-mail, I will ask the minister who handled the Irish MOU to contact her. I think the hold up may be the US ratification of the Haigh Convention on children. |

new here
I'm new here and posted this in another area of the forum before I found this. I also have a friend in Vietnam who is willing to give up the baby to us but have no idea how to proceed. I also can't afford an agency and am really new at all of this. Can anyone tell me if there is someone to get in touch with in the US like the lady in Ireland from the previous post? Any help would be appreciated
