Vietnam adoption
I'm asking for another person who has said there is a senate/house or some congressional person who's introduced or is in the process of introducing some legislation to reopen Vietnam. Does anyone know who or what this could be or if it even exists?
I hope someone knows something and I thank you. Katey |

Congressman Delahunt from MA is the International adoption guru on the Hill. Try giving his office a call or emailing them. If you call them ask to speak to the staff member who is handeling international adoptions.
I believe he is attempting to push some legislation to move this issue forward. Vietman is our first choice and we are waiting to hear about any progress as well. Best of luck. |

Vietnam adoption
Thank you so very much for your informative reply.
I shall pass this on the couple who have adopted previously and are hoping to do so again. You are a true lifesaver. Now if ony you had a job for me.... Just kidding... Have a great week-end. Blessings, |

It will also help to contact your local congressman and both your senators to make them aware of this issue and how many people are being affected by non-negotiations on both sides.
To get the names of your members you can look on the web House address : www.house.gov Senate address: www.senate.gov You will get a much better response from the offices if you call rather than email. I don't know if any of the agencies are lobbying congress to try to get negotiations moving again, not only with Vietnam but with Cambodia. The true victims are those children in the orphanages. Good luck finding a job. |

Katy-I talked to an agency and they are under the assumption that the window for adopting in Viet Nam will open June 15th. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. I will try to confirm this with a friend at Congress this week.

As someone who started the process to adopt from Vietnam in January 2003, I would be very cautious of any agency giving out dates.
Last I heard (earlier this week), Vietnam had not formally responded to the latest draft of the protocol. It is very unlikely even if an agreement was signed today that things would be running by June. It will most likely take 2-3 months for Vietnam to license agencies and this will not happen until an aggeement is signed. The recent meetings in Vietnam showed that there are still some major issues on the table that need to be resolved. While I hope Vietnam will open soon, I am not optimistic that it will happen in the very near future. I would love to be pleastantly surprised. I would strongly advise that you do not pay any agency money at this time. You may want to join the VietnamMou Yahoogroup. This will offer you better information on the status of Vietnam adoptions. Best of Luck, Keri |

Last I spoke with a friend in Congress I was hearing that there were issues still on the table and that was a few weeks ago.
I have a call into a member who is the guru on the hill on adoption. So when I hear something from him I will post it. I only wish I had contacts at State. Our agency seems to be making plans to restart their Vietnam program and they are aware that if Vietnam opens that to move us from their China program to Vietnam and they have not contacted us yet about any news. |

Sorry for the bad news. |
