Expectant mother fired from job.
Hi. The mother of my child to be was fired from her job yesterday. She is 7 months pregnant. She didn't tell them she was pregnant because, for reasons that I've explained in a previous post, she didn't know until recently. She is showing now, and they made some bullcrap reason as to why she was being fired. Anyway, is there any sort of assistance she can get? Unemployment? She has only worked at this job for about 4 months. Does she qualify for disabilty?
Any kind of info or advice would help greatly. Thanks |

Well for unemployment it would count the first four quarters of the last five for her income.
If her income was steady last year then that is the bulk of what her wage will be based on... Otherwise.. she would file for state aid... and qualify for food stamps and perhaps general assistance depending on the unemployment and your state's guidelines. Basically...she should just apply... some states let you apply for both welfare and unemployment online and you dont have to go down until they schedule the interviews... If her company fights the claim (they fired her so she has grounds to file) then she can still collect until the hearing... but if they were firing her for a copout reason.. chances are they will let her have the unemployment and not fight it. Luck! |

I'm not sure I understand this. Can you elaborate, please? And this is the only recorded job she has had. She used to be a nanny for some families, but that was under the table. |

ok you are in the second quarter of this year... so go back 5 quarters and then delete the most recent one (1st quarter of this year). So her whole income being considered to collect unemployment will be all four quarters of last year.
That is to determine the amount. To determine whether she has merit to collect will be the reason for leaving the most recent job... if they fired her and there is no merit or they dont fight it.. she basically automatically qualifies...as long as she is able to still work full time. |

If that is the only recorded job... then no, she will not be able to collect unemployment...
