tanith,

How far have you got with your search? Have you got your OBC? If not do you know the address you need to apply to?

Pip

I think you are allowed to search.. I did not think I was allowed.. But I got on the net and started corresponding and learned that it is morally okay..

I put my info out on the net and my bson found me.

Welcome to the forums..

tanith,

Forgot to mention yes you can search and the law is changing in September 2005 for the better but basically it just means you will have a right to an intermediary. Did you know you are also entitled to get copies of the adoption (of your daughter)?

I'm not quite sure that is all exactely right, first the law doesn't change until the 30 December 2005 (it was going to be September but got put back) then you will be able to request an Adoption Support Agency to undertake a search for your daughter to asertain her views on contact or the exchange of information. They will not tell you her name or where she is unless she agrees. Fees for that service are likely to be around £150 - £300. Some adoption agencies are already doing this ahead of the change to the law.

You can apply to the court for access to certain parts of your daughter's adoption records but it is up to the judge, most won't allow you access at the moment, there are also new Court Rules comming in the near future which may make things better getting access to court adoption records.

There isn't anything at all to stop you from tracing you own natural mother and never has been.

Do you know what your name was before you were adopted? What to do next will depend very much on that.

Robin
