My wife and I are very interested in adoption and think that we would like to adopt from the Ukraine. US adoption is so much more expensive and more difficult from what we have read. I don't really understand that. Anyway, the reason we are considering adoption is because we have been unsucessful at having children. Please share pros/cons/success/failures with us. We would like to begin the process as soon as possible. Thanks to all!

My husband and I thought the same thing about the expense. But after talking to people, we had friends recommended an attorney who does private adoptions. They are estimating thier services average $9k to $12k. I was really excited about Ukraine when we started. But I've heard right now there are not many children under the age of 7. This is expected to change very soon. Also there are sooo many people all over the world going to Ukraine. I have not totally written off a Ukraine adoption, and If you haven't found it already, check out www.ukrainianangels.org Cathy Harris is doing great things.

Hi Chris and Julia
Welcome to the world of adoption. There are many great places to go for information. I moderate a site that has many people visiting who have adopted and have shared their links with us. Please come and check out their links. They have extensive links to several areas of Eastern Europe. My url is: http://www.adoptachild.org/discus/index.html
Click on the Topic entitled Helpful Links. In the meantime, let me introduce myself. I am the mother of two biological children and an adopted Korean daughter. I can say from experience, adopting our daughter enriched our family beyond imagination. I know God sent us there to find her. My bio children have always loved her as their own sister (in fact, they get along better with her than each other!), and my bio daughter has been so positively affected by our experience, she plans to adopt a child from Russia or China one day. That is why I developed an interest in Eastern European adoption. I have kept up with the adoption industry over the years, but there are many differences between how we adopt from each area. BTW, before I got pregnant with my first bio child, I had thought I was infertile. We had tried for almost five years. It was when we quit trying and decided to look into adoption, that I found out I was pregnant. You may get a surprise yourself. Who knows? Grin. Anyway, welcome to this forum and I hope to see you posting over at my main forum soon. Doris_O |

Thanks
Thanks for the information. We are looking at both URL's right now. As for the surprise in the future, that would be fine by us, but we still have room in our home and hearts for a child in need. Again, thanks and we will keep everyone posted. We are meeting with an attorney next week.
