Red face Referral Question

How often is it that you go and have specific age limit on what you want and then you are given a referral that is outside of that age limit? My preference is the younger the better so I would hope to receive a referral of a girl that would be less than 20 mths old and would be very upset not to receive a referral with that criteria. Please advise on your experiences.

thanks!

LeAnne

There are very few children available in this age range. As you may know from your research on Ukraine, it is rare for a child to be placed for adoption at birth in Ukraine, but if they are, the children's home sometimes does not do the paper work right away, perhaps because they are paid by the child or because relatives keep visiting; so even these kids tend to be made available later than 18 months. Most are much older. If you look at some of the other websites where statistics are posted, there has been a clear trend toward older kids. However, on occasion young children are placed for adoption and they go to someone. Some degree of luck of the draw is involved in such matches (as well as facilitators with connections and perhaps extra fees are paid as well).
Good luck to you,
MM

If your heart is 100% set on a young child, then you should adopt from another country.

Ukraine works well for families who are flexible on age/gender/health issues. The average age of the adopted children is around 5 years of age.

Look at the bottom of this blog for my source on this statistic.
