How long?
Hello,
My husband and I are currently looking at plan "B". We are logged in (LID) in China and we believe, it will be 3 years before we are referred a child ![]() So we are looking at other options. I know things are a bit crazy in the Ukraine adoption world, but how fast or slow are things moving right now? If you have a child you find in a photo listing (older >18 months) is the process any quicker? Not that I am looking for the fastest way to "get a child" I just want to know what the facts are ![]() ANY insight would be great at this point. Thanks, Rebecca

You cannot preselect a child in Ukraine and photolisting is illegal. Do not use anyone that shows you photos of waiting children in Ukraine or that tells you that you can select a child before you travel. You must submit your completed dossier to the SDA in Kiev. They will view your dossier and send you a travel date. When you travel, you will be shown available children. THere is no guarantee you will find a healthy child or one in your age range or gender on your first visit to the SDA. After you choose a child, you will go to the region to visit and decide if you will complete your adoption. You have the option of waiting to get another appointment at the SDA, but you have to have a good reason for turning down a referral. This is a VERY short synopsis of the process, I suggest you join the adoption from Ukraine yahoo board, it is very active and will give you more information. Adoption from Ukraine is not easy at the moment and you have to be prepared to be very flexible with your age, health and gender criteria

Thanks :)
I read, shortly after I posted, about the photolisting and the illegality of posting Ukrainian Children.
Thanks for the other info. Hopefully DH and I will have a plan B soon!

We just had our dossier submitted in Ukraine. From time of submission it is currently taking 20-40 business days to get a travel date (it's normally 20 days, but there is a new director and they are short staffed right now). Your travel date has been running about three months from the date of submission - so it's pretty quick compared to some other programs at the moment; although you never know what can happen in this day and age of international adoption.
If you need any further help please feel free to email me privately. FRUA has a good chat board. Good luck to you! MW |

Rebecca - Has Ukraine changed the law about photo listing children? I've been a little out of the loop over the last year (or maybe longer than I thought) but the last I knew, it was illegal to photo list or pre-select a child to adopt from Ukraine. |
