Exclamation We might be going?

Our agency called 2 days ago and informed us that their person in Kiev had met with the new director in the adoption department- I forget what it is called. Our agency said the new director wants to get things moving. She also said young children were available for adoption. They wanted to schedule us to go in May, 2 other families in June and July. My wife and I were stunned. We had pretty much thought Ukraine was not going to work out for us. In fact, we had begun some paperwork for Ethiopia.
Anyway, we are somewhat fearful- but we are going to tell our agency we will go. We have to update some documents. It is scary- the new department could be great- or could be so new that it is still figuring things out. It is so unnerving as very little good has been happening in the last 6 months or so. Has anyone else heard anything?? Any thoughts for us to consider? Are we crazy to go? Any ideas on how to get good airfare? We were approved to adopt in June of 2005.

I hope this is true! I have been waiting sine July 2005(approved then) and am getting pretty tired of the wait. Before this I waited 16 months for an adoption in Belarus and then it closed down all adoptions...I have just about had more than I can take. Keep us updated on what you hear if you can.
Thanks!!

That's Great!

I am so excited for you. Hopefully, we will be right behind you. Are you having to change anything on your paperwork or having to add anything? It is about time for us to update our paperwork too but our agency said to wait alittle longer in case they made any changes. Are you having to change anything on your paperwork or having to add anything?

re:

Does that mean American citizens can adopt even young children or are their still restrictions in place ? such as older children, siblings of an already adopted child etc. Did everyone get their reports done ? OR are the people who are now getting dates to travel, were they registered before the shutdown ??

There are a lot of families that were registered with the NAC in the first half of 2005 that are still waiting for appointments to travel to Ukraine. Presumably they will still be allowed to adopt younger and healthy children, but I have no idea how they will really differentiate when families that signed before and after the close travel at similar times

That is so exciting! We were registered last May 2005 so we are over the waiting too! I heard from my facilitator that the new authority would begin work on May 9 (May 3 is a holiday and there are several days that they take off that week) and he expects fast processing. We've already updated all of our paperwork and are good until August before we have to go through round 3.
