Question I'm confused .......

What is happening.... They say that they are open again BUT not to USA citizens because those reports were not handed in ??

I am Canadian, does this restriction apply to me too or just American citizens ??

me too!

From what my agency has said, they are not accepting new dossiers from U.S. families, unless you want a child that falls under one of the three criteria (special needs, sibling, or older child). If your dossier was already registered though, as mine was, then adoptions for those people will proceed as usual, until May 1st when the new organization takes over.

Hi, I will take a look back at a thread I read on a different chat group... it stated that Ukraine is now open to accepting dossiers from Canadians. I read this within the past week or so. I hope I can find it...

I found it! It was posted on a thread on February 3rd.

Transitional law to allow NAC to continue processing adoptions is now in effect As previously noted, on January 31, 2006, the Ukrainian President, Viktor Yushchenko, signed Law 3335-IV, giving interim authority for adoption processing to the existing National Adoption Centre (NAC) under the Ministry of Education until the new State Authority for Adoption and Protection of Children's Rights has been established under the Ministry for Family, Youth
and Sports. Parliament has mandated that the Cabinet create the new State Authority by May 1, 2006. Today, February 2, 2006, the law was published in Parliament's official newspaper, Holos Ukrainy, meaning that this law is now
in force. The NAC will therefore will resume full processing during the transition period, including new registration of prospective adoptive parents and of children available for adoption, and continued processing of existing cases.

Suspension on acceptance of adoption applications from Canadians has been lifted.

The NAC has officially confirmed that the suspension on acceptance of new adoption dossiers from Canadians has been rescinded. The relevant text is as follows: "in regards to the temporary suspension in acceptance of applications from potential adoptive parents, citizens of Canada, we [the
National Adoption Centre] are pleased to inform the following. As a result of the work which was accomplished in cooperation with the MFA and the Embassy, the Adoption Centre has all reports on all children adopted by Canadian citizens during 1996-2003. In accordance with the above-mentioned, the National Adoption Centre can renew acceptance of documents from Canadian citizens for their registration as potential adoptive parents." Thanks and
plaudits are due to those in the Canadian adoption community who worked so hard to achieve this outcome. The restrictions have been maintained for the remaining countries which had continued to be subject to the September 2005 suspension.

Officials of the Ministry for Family, Youth and Sports continue to recommend that prospective adoptive parents postpone submission of new applications until the new State Authority for Adoption and Protection of Children's Rights becomes operational (that is, after May 1, 2006).

Thanks for posting that info Nene, I really appreciate that. I guess with Canadians only adopting a small number of Ukraine children it is a lot easier to keep track.

I have to wonder though, if in fact we wont be put on restrictions as well, like only adopting sibling group or children with disabilities...etc.

Thanks again. :-)
