Does anyone know if the NAC has closed as thought may happen under the new director? Have checked embassy site and there is no information provided and have been unable to find out for sure! I realize this was to be a 2 week or so shut down if allowed by the government - Thank you so much for any help that anyone may provide!

NAC
The NAC has not "closed"....but the new director has cancelled all appointments through the end of August. We've been planning for two months for our June 24 appointment (today, ironically) and were notified a week ago that we were postponed. We're obviously very disappointed.
Supposedly they are looking at the dossiers of all families that had appointments during this period and will reschedule those whose paperwork is about to expire. These new appointments are to take place between July 10 and 31. Since our home study expires in September, we hope to be one of the lucky families to get a new appointment. This information comes from our agency and I confirmed it independently with the State Department. If anyone else has any information about this situation please share it. Thanks, Dean |

???
They aren't closing it completly are they? My concern is that they are gonna let people through that were to that point and then quit adoptions all together, which would be tragic for all those little orphans and all of us wating to adopt.

No, not close altogether - under the new director there was talk that the center may close down for a couple of weeks which apparently didn't occur but there are still issues that are causing some delays for those who await appointment times per post above from Dean (thank you again for your reply Dean!)- good luck to all awaiting information regarding the status of their adoption!

NAC not closing
The NAC will not close completely, but will take care of families whose dossiers are in danger of expiring over the summer months.

I know of 2 families that just left for appts on Monday, so the NAC is still functioning, but very...very...slowly.
My understanding is the MOE denied their request to close for July & August and this extreme slowdown is their response to that denial without actually closing.

After being cancelled for our June 24 appointment, we learned yesterday that our agency was successful in getting us a July 7 appointment. So we're departing on the Fourth of July.
Anyone who has a suggestion or helpful comment as we get ready to go - our ears are open! Thanks, Dean |

Dean,
Pack light... get some framed hiking backpacks instead of taking luggage. take the avon skin so soft bug/sun repelant (it has citronella, keeps all types of bugs away) also depending on the age take a baby carrier (the ones that go over your shoulders and rest on your chest) get one with the sturdy backsupport board, since there are no carseats or seatbelts in vehicles over there... at least in very few of them. They make ones that double as a car seat for older kids. places like walmart carry them. Ohh yeah, and tell us how it went when you get back... good luck. |

NAC is open
Our clients went to Ukraine on June 17 and will return tomorrow with 2 healthy boys 4-5 y.o. NAC is working as usual at least at this time. They adopted from Kharkov region.

Registration Number?
Can you share with me what a "registration number" is? Is this a number issued by the agency handling adoption or by NAC? What is the purpose of the number? Sorry to sound so naive but this is the first time I've heard of this! Thank you in advance for your reply!

I have not been to the NAC yet, but my understanding is that the NAC gives your dossier a registration number to say they have approved your paperwork. Then you get an appt date.

I am also not aware of a specific number, but that does not mean we don't have one. Our agency called us on April 22 to tell us we had an appt on June 24, which the NAC cancelled on June 17. They called last Friday to tell us we're rescheduled for July 7.
I'll look over our paperwork though and see if we have such a number. Dean |

All dossiers are assigned a registration number when they are approved. Most people never find out what this number is, only that they are approved and waiting for an appointment.
It had some relevance for a very short period of time when the NAC was posting appointment lists with these numbers, but they stopped that when one was photographed and posted to the internet. The relevance may again become important if, as rumored, families will have to correspond directly with the NAC in regards to appointment dates via fax instead of through their POA or translator. Dean, Best wishes on a fruitful adoption journey. Remember what your goal is during times of stress and upheaval. Don't let anything deter you from finding your child or children. I used 2 things as substitute seat belts during my 2 trips. Duct tape the first trip and a man's leather belt the second trip. Both worked, the belt was better for longer use and was also good when a suitcase broke open and I didn't want duct tape adhesive on it going through the airport checks. The baby carrier can often become a useless item since you don't know what age of child you are adopting.
