Not sure where to start. . .
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to find my mums birth parents, siblings and/or any family. But I'm not sure where to start, what to do etc. I'm useless at this sort of thing. I have my mums adoption certificate but not her birth certificate. Based on what her adoption certificate says; the adoption was certified by the juvenile court in the borough or accrington and she was adopted (or her adopted parents lived in) the borough of accrington. I think this is Lancashire. We believe her birth name was Margaret Livsey. I think her adopted parents told her this when she was younger and that her real parents had more children. But whether this is like chinese whispers and circumstansial, I dont know. Would her birth certificate have her birth parents and real name on it? Where do I go from here? The adoption certificate was register at somerset house in london. Its just confusing. Thanks to anyone who helps. Trisha |

hiya trisha, the easiest way to find people is to use the web, if u email me at Tynesteve@aol.com and just clarify what information u've got, I could try and help u, I've only officially found 3 people, when I started out not knowing where to go, and realised there's not much help as to whats what, so I'll be happy to help if I can

It may be worth you getting in touch with After Adoption for some advice as they help with people touched by adoption including how to search. As your mum was probably born in Accrington they should be able to help as they deal with people who were born in the North of England. Their number is 0800 0 568 578, address Head Office,12-14, Chapel Street, Manchester M3 7NH and website address is www.afteradoption.org.uk. There is a forum attached to the website so you will probably get plenty of advice there as well.

Hiya,
Thank you for your replies. My mum was born in Keighley, Yorkshire. The social worker thought that it was strange the adoption was completed in accrington but we have no information about that. Thank you for the after adoption link. I will get in touch with them asap. Is there anything else I can try? Weebsey: I left you a private message hun. I'll email you now though. ![]() |

Hey,
I'm just replying to this post because trisha told me too. I'm her best mate and i'm helping her mum and her find her real family. Well it's not going to plan at the moment. We have tried ringing a load of people up with the last name but they don't know anyone we are looking for. We are going to keep looking but Trisha is worried about not finding anyone and starting to give up hope i think. Is there anything else we can do? We haven't got much infomation like Trisha said before. Please help us if you can. Bex x ![]() |
