transracial adoption

My husband and I are thinking of moving to London. We are white and adopted an African American baby girl at birth. We have had some negative responses to this in the US mostly from African American Women. We are not the type of people who adopted to "save" a baby, we just wanted a family and race dosn't matter to us, we just want our baby to be happy. I was wondering what the feelings about transracial adoption are in the UK. Are people adopting across racial lines, and are there negative feelings toward this type of adoption. I appreciate any response I can get. Thanks!

sshears,

I don't actually live in London but lived near there for many years as well as having worked there. London is a multi - cultured city so you shouldn't have a problem though obviously like any international city some areas are better than others. What part of London was you thinking about moving too?

A friend's sister who is white like us is married a lovely black man, they have had their own children and live in the East End of London. Although they haven't adopted they do foster children of all different races - African/Carribean English, white, Chinese, Indian, the list goes on .... all these children have been accepted for what they are.

Hope this helps put your mind at rest.

Philippa

Sarah

I doubt you'll face negative feelings.
