For the entire first year I referred to her as african american until I was finally corrected by a black friend who said "O.k. girl thats enough with the african american, you can just call her black." I think it depends on the area that you live in. Listen to how blacks in your area refer to each other. In our area, blacks call each other black and white call them african american. I feel comfortable calling our daughter black. Just try them out and see how you feel......you'll figure it out, I promise. Either way, they will know they are loved. Dia

Hi, We are an English family that adopted while living in South Africa, and are now living in the States.He came to us as a foster baby that had been abandoned at the hospital, to cut a long story short almost three years later we adopted him after taking the government to constitutional court and changing the law on international adoptions. We would love to hear from anyone who has adopted from south africa. |
