Thanks for the compliments everyone!! They are so adorable.... I wish I could take credit for that! I'm enjoying dressing them up and accessorizing the gorgeousness.
Nick that is a really helpful website... I think I may try some of the products. So I'm going to avoid the brush for Kee and use the water and olive oil... just have to get a spritzer now. That brush in the picture is what I used on his hair. Combs really seem to pull too much so I don't use them at all any more. I pick doesn't seem like it would be thorough enough though so I haven't gotten one of those yet. Oakshannon, Maybe they all do change somewhat! Manni, they are not genetically related. Siblings, yes, of course! SHD... walking? Once she started she hasn't stopped! It's continuous! Although I must say she is a little more tired at bedtime and goes to sleep much more quickly, lol! |

To detangle, I would make sure his hair was moist and put in a little conditioner. (David's hair was a different texture, more like Athena's, so I probably used more that you would need to.) And I would use a wide toothed comb, starting at the ends and working in. Once it was detangled, I could use the pick to style it. As long as his hair was well conditioned and moist, the comb didn't pull. I was told not to comb his hair while it was dry and the moisture did seem to help. |

You're welcome, the site was a great find, forgot who recommended it to me. SHD girls are something else, I am seeing the difference between DD and my boys.
Little ds has about 3 to 4 different textures in his hair, straight, frizzy, curly, it also depends on how much his hair grows out. His different hair textures are more evident when it is grown out in a fro. Right now it is cut to a shorter length where a little hair milk brings out (defines) his curls. Big ds' hair changed after toddler hood, and stayed about the same, we will see what puberty does. Little ds has gone through a few changes thus far. DD's hair has filled in (she had swirls in the back of her head when she was placed with us so cute :-) ) Her hair is thicker now and about 4 to 5 inches all over, 3 inches on the sides. It is thicker, but still very soft. She has fine straight hair at her temples and hair line. I try to do what I call sleep braids when she goes to bed to protect the ends.. so the ends do not break off and help to keep the length going on. She also tends to play her in hair before going to sleep, not good lol After washing her hair, I use a little Oyins Shea butter and rub a dollop in the palms of my hand to melt it. I then apply this to her still damp hair, especially the ends. Everyday, I use a bit of the olive oil/h2o spritz (especially in the winter) before I comb her hair. Water is good for those with dry hair. I use a wide tooth comb, I am careful that the plastic is not cheap.. some cheap combs has small ridges on the teeth. I use a satin pillow case for DD, and my hair. The pillow case is great if the hair length is not long enough to do sleep braids, or if one do not want to wake the little one up. Another thing: We have hard water (another skin/hair drying culprit), and really need to get the water softener that's standing in our garage installed. If you have hard water, I have used the distilled water for the h20 with the olive oil. phew , this is why it takes so much time to get ready in the mornings.. and my hair looks like a nest. lol Last edited by nickchris : 10-10-2009 at 04:07 PM. |

Cute babies!
I think he's a little too young for regular product. So stick with the olive oil and water spray. Now for Athena you may want to try one of the Curly Cocktails from the Curl Mart on Naturallycurly.com. You get a good assortment of full size products to use. I got the Hot Buttered Curls kit and used everything except the Frank Juice. The Frank Juice scent was a little too masculine for my taste. My DD is old enough to use whatever I use and it helps that we have similar hair textures. I might have 2 textures on my head and she has 3. I order products from the Curl Mart when I can't find them locally. It's better than ordering direct from some of the manufacturers because you always get a good freebie when you spend a certain amount and you can catch free shipping from time to time. With each order they send samples of other products. The best freebie I've gotten has been the heat cap with the gel inserts. Hair texture can change up till puberty. A lot of people use age 4 or 5 as the standard age when it stops changing. I would look at the bparents to see what their hair texture is. Most kids end up with what the parents have or somewhere in between. |

I use occasionally on Joshie's hair something called Max Curls that you can only buy at salons. I put a small bit on my fingers and run them through his hair when it's wet. It really seems to hold the curl and keeps frizziness out. Joshie's hair is very soft with big curls. For now, anyway!
Blessings, Michelle
