My daughters are fascinated with AA children

Ainsley and Bea are almost four. No, we don't live in the most diverse area, but probably every couple days or so when we go out, they see AA kids out and about. Depending on where we are (like a playground vs grocery store), they will want to run up and talk to them, tell them how they have a brother that looks just like them, give them a hug, etc. In a place like the grocery store, they will get all excited and say "that boy looks like Caleb!" at least they haven't done it too loud. They also like to call the boy in "The Snowy Day" Caleb. I've shown them some Jackson 5 clips on YouTube, and they think it's so neat that they are all "like Caleb".

We do have a family in our playgroup that is Ethiopian, and we see them every couple weeks, and for some reason they never do this with them, maybe because they've known them since before Caleb?

I'm not quite sure how to handle this one.

Considering their age, I do not see a biggie in this. As long as the other child do not mind the hug and such.. hey it sounds cute. They will get a bit more reserved over time. lol

Oh I don't think it's a problem or anything. Guess maybe one of those "overthinking it" things, like do I tell them not to be so (whatever, can't think of a word), or just go with it? I know they are very proud of Caleb and tell everyone they meet "We have a baby brother!" and some tidbit about what he is doing (crawling, has 4 teeth). I'm glad they are such good big sisters.

My nieces do this all the time.
Just the other day we were shopping at a large Korean market and they walked up to a little girl (she looked to be about 4 0r 5) and told her they had a cousin that looked just like her.

Our daughter has really been noticing this. Our area sounds similar to your area. For people we see regularly who are AA, she doesn't say anything. If it's someone different, she says, "Hey, that looks like me!" She's not quite 3, so we weren't expecting this, yet.

My nephew was 5 when we got W. He was very excited to tell me that he had a friend who was the same color as W. My SIL said he was also very excited to tell his friend that he had a new cousin the same color that his friend was. His little friend thought that was cool too. I think kids that age just don't get hung up about skin color the way some adults do. They see differences as cool. I wish the rest of the world would see differences as cool too.
