Wow ocra. Those are fantastic. Sure wish I could do that. Only problem is, right now I only have boys with buzz cuts.

Ocra-
You gotta stop that. I have a 3 month old and you make me want a GIRL Maybe I should just take up braiding and offer it on the side?
I love the one where the parts are in a pie shape. That is so beautiful.

Ok Aclee -- now I am jealous. Biset has never slept 12 hours straight in her life. And I am really tired because of it. I can't wait for the teenage years because I have hope that maybe she will learn to sleep then.

Careful what you wish for! lol I'm sure when she's a teenage she will stay up late and sleep in. Then you'll be yelling for her to get out of bed at noon!

What products do you use in ur DD hair? And how do you get those little curls at the ends?

L's hair is just getting long and very very thick so I can start trying different things!

I tend to use mostly Carol's Daughter products at this point. They have a great smelling Black Vanilla line. I shampoo about once a week and condition it at the same time. I don't really rinse the conditioner out. Then when styling I just use a bit of Let's Jam gel. Her hair is pretty soft and thin so I don't need much. If her scalp is getting dry mid style then I spray a little leave in conditioner. Use as much as you need and not a drop more of any product. I tend to go as natural as possible and try to stay away from any petroleum based products. Not all products will work in all hair so try a lot and plan on having a ton of things in your bathroom that you have no intentions of using again. Her hair is getting really long (hasn't had a hair cut in over 3 years) so if I don't braid it gets really tangled and she is miserable when I try to comb it out. I just feel pressured to come up with new styles all the time. I asked her teacher for a suggestion yesterday and she wanted the Mohawk -- not a style that can be done in a hour after work, after dinner, before bed. That will have to wait until a weekend styling session.

She wouldn't let me do the cornrows! Even Kee was not up to it.
I'm going to practice on the husband next.

Keep trying! Our DD will let me do everything except cornrows. Maybe I'm tugging too hard; I try to braid gently, but it's still no go.

I can't do much fancy stuff but I DID manage cornrows. It just took practice. I know I have told the story before but my son Malik HATED having his hair cut. That coupled with the fact that it was tough finding someone who could actually cut his hair well (he has a much looser curl so the barbers who could cut "regular", tighter curled black hair couldn't do his very well)... I started looking for alternatives when he was about 4. He has had a lot of different variations but settled on locks when he was about 6 (thats a whole lotta work too!). Here is his kindergarden pic with cornrows though, I think it was pretty cute!

I have a mannequin head to practice on. Haven't gotten it out in a while though because with DD's texture change, all her long hair is gone, minus the puff which is too small to do anything with since the sides and back are so short. These videos are amazing and soooo helpful:

Are you on the Yahoo hair group? It's also very helpful!

Veggie,

Thanks for posting that link. I had seen some of her videos in the past and she does a great job of explaining things. I may spend some time watching her videos this weekend to get some new ideas for style. Biset is getting the veil style this weekend because we have pictures on Sunday. But after that she is requesting the mohawk style.
