finding a group

I'm interested in finding a group of transracial families to meet up with sometimes. I want both my kids (bio and adopted) to see that yes, there are other families who look like ours, but have no idea how to go about finding something like that. Anyone have any suggestions?

Have you tried going to the local adoption forums and seeing if anyone in your area has a transracial group? How about calling your agency and seeing if they will introduce you to other transracial families that they have worked with? Good Luck in finding a group!

google "meetup" and check out that site. You can even set up your own group

Foster-Adopt & College

Forgive me for posting in this thread. I have no idea how to start a new post, so if a moderator could move this to the appropriate place, I would greatly appreciate it.

My partner and I have adopted 4 boys from the California foster care system. We have started a 529 college fund on the first, but in talking about starting 3 more, someone mentioned that kids adopted from the foster care system in California get free college tuition.

Does anyone have any information or experience about this?

Thank you.
Alicia

We started our own group and have about 7 families so far. We plan activities for the last Saturday of the month so it's consistent. You could always go that route.

We have such a group in Columbus, Ohio. Feel free to PM me and I can give you our website so that you can get some ideas of how we work, in case you want to start your own group.

I heard kids in CA going to a state school can either go for free or a very reduced rate, but I know nothing more about it because no one I know has kids even close to this age.

If you find out more, please post.

Somebody referred me to a playgroup on meetup.com (I think that's where?!!)
You could check for it there and I'm not sure if yahoo groups would have anything either that is local but it would be another place to check.

Jillned, your kids look adorable!
