I adopted from foster care. My first time around I was open to sex, race, some drug exposure. My five-day-old son came home 1 day shy of me being licensed 2 months.

For my daughter, I was open to race, but not sex, and I wanted an older baby around 8 months. My wait was three weeks, then another three weeks before she came home. She was 6 1/2 months.

Best of luck!

We waited 27 days to be matched. Our daughter was born 24 hours later. And yes, this was our first adoption attempt. I think the reason our wait was so short (other than God being totally 100% responsible for it! lol) was b/c we signed with a larger national agency that networks with smaller agencies throughout the US. And one of the smaller agencies just happened to be in our home state. And they are located in a major city with a significant AA population and NOT ONE SINGLE FAMILY would accept an AA or biracial child except for us. We expected to wait much longer since we already had a bio child.

It hasnt been true for us. We've been waiting 2 years, but part of that is that we're requesting a girl.

Talking Wait time..

After we officially signed up with our agency (we already had our homestudy done), we waited just shy of 4 months. It was a baby born situation.

We now have almost all of our paperwork ready to update our homestudy so our little girlie can be a big sissy!!! (ok... a boy gets to be a big bubba and a girl gets to be a big sissy.. lol )

We submitted our profile to the agency and were "active" the first week of Feb. '08. We were matched 11 weeks later (first time) and our DD was born 3 weeks after that. We worked w/an agency that only does adoptions in our state, and we were in the "AA/Biracial Program." There were only 11 families (including us) in this program in the WHOLE state. We were open to some drug exposure, no alcohol, and open adoption. Our DD's birthmother smoked her entire pregnancy and there was a chance our DD had a malformed stomach and ould need surgeryright after birth. We said yes and she was born perfectly healthy. The ultrasound was wrong or the problem corrected itself before birth. We are so in love and are hoping to do another adoption next year. Oh and our DD is biracial. Her birthmom is CC and her birthdad is from Ghana, Africa.
