I'm 34 and have still not mastered this balancing act. I don't know that it can ever be mastered...it's a daily thing for me, a constant evaluation of each new situation. Quite tiring, actually. Maybe that's why some just stick to one side (assuming all people are bad or racist) as it's less taxing and one can protect one'e emotional self. Most people, I think, however, take the harder route of the "balancing act".

Hi there Samantha. I check out this forum, and the foster care forums more these days. Though I mostly lurk and don't post like I used to "back in the day" on the Guatemala forum. It is good to branch out.

I check out the antiracist parent site you mentioned on the other thread every week. Lots of good information and suggestions on how to handle various situations that our kids and transracial familes face.

Let me know if you think of any others, or books to read. Best wishes!
