Exclamation Anyone Willing to Answer a Few Questions?

Hi there.

My name is Kathryn and I am a grade 12 student in Ontario, Canada. Over the past few months, for one of my courses, I have been researching and compiling a pretty in-depth report about transracial adoption. I have been working on it for a number of months, sorting through a lot of conflicting information and doing my best to find relevant, recent research. One of the requirements for the final report is that I conduct some research of my own, and I have chosen to do this in the form of an interview. I have had a pretty difficult time finding people in my community that even know what transracial adoption is, let alone people who would be able to answer questions about it. I have only found one family in my community and they were very helpful with answering questions, but I need at least two interviews (total).

If there is anyone on here who has either adopted or been adopted transracially, please either post here or private message me if you would be willing to answer some questions. It would be a maximum of 10 questions and how much detail you feel comfortable including is completely up to you.

The questions deal with the development of a racial and ethnic identity, as well as how the parents dealt with a child of another race/how the child felt this factor contributed (if at all) to his/her overall development.

From the research that I have conducted over the past few months, I am personally of the mindset that transracial adoption can be a very successful and postive experience for both the parents and children. The one family that I have already had the pleasure of interviewing has showed me this first hand!

However, I am interested in everyone's experiences. As with anything, I am sure that there have been circumstances that have not "worked out." If you feel this is your case, and you feel that race was a contributing factor, then I would be very interested to hear your side of the story as well as anyone who has had success!

I am simply interested in examining your experiences and comparing them to other people's.

I hope that this all makes sense.

Thanks,
Kathryn

Our family has adopted internationally and domestically. We have grown Asian children; as well as three AA children (adopted as infants) at home now.

Would be glad to be interviewed, though looks as though you already may have enough people?

Sincerely,

Linny

Hi there everyone,

I received quite the outpouring of people willing and ready to answer questions and help me out!

I am sending out a big, huge THANK YOU to everyone who has contacted me! I have received the answers to more interviews than were required for my project. I just wanted to let you all know that although I don't need (and won't be able to) include anymore interviews in my project, I would still love to hear your personal stories.

Thanks all for your kindness. Thanks to the amazing generosity I have been shown, I might just kind of hang around here for a while, reading and learning from your experiences, if it's okay with all of you.

Thanks so much again.
Many hugs,
Kathryn
