Again with the hair - I need to do something different

I know there are so many threads, I guess now it's my turn! Josh's hair is looking fuzzy lately. His hair (he's Ethiopian) is a looser curl and we're letting it grow out a bit. I've always had a good handle on it until now. We rarely use shampoo, I usually "wash" it with conditioner, then more conditioner after that. I do a daily wet-down of water/olive oil, sometimes a leave in conditioner, and then some sort of creme/hair lotion (there's a few that I use).

Is the fuzziness caused by being too dry? Do I need a heavier conditioner, or a heavier moisturizing creme? Or something totally different? I've avoided the Carol's Daughter stuff so far because I think it's expensive and what we have has always worked. Just now I've noticed that the defined, soft curls don't last all day - it goes fuzzy by afternoon.

Ideas??

Thank you!

My DS has a looser curl too and it tends to get fuzzy, I think because of dryness. My favorite thing to use is jojoba oil and it helps a lot. I use it every couple of days or so (or as needed). It's not a greasy heavy oil and only a drop is needed.

Hey Jen,

No real ideas for you, but just wanted to say the CD stuff lasts forever. I've bought one bottle of Spray-on conditioner and one container of Hair Butter (about $12-$14 each) and I have two kids - we are still working on it and we've had it for 8 months. So...it'll cost about $1.50 a month which isn't so bad! And they'll do free shipping if over $50, so buy in bulk if you decide to purchase...

My son's hair is pretty long and it gets that "fuzzy" look by afternoon, too. I spray a little conditioner on it - much less than when I first comb it out in the morning - and use a pick to get those defined curls again. I think longer hair just means having to do a little touch up by the end of the day.

If it's getting longer, how often are you washing it? Is he wearing hats? It could be anything. Not sure of his age, (I may have missed it), but the texture could very well be changing into what will be his "real" hair texture. You may have to try a few different products until you get a handle on it again.

DD has very tight curls. It frizzes a good ten minutes after using conditioner. We've tried lots of stuff and now use one product most of the time (Pretty-n-Pink), but again, her hair is very tightly curled. Her hair is soft, just frizzy. No advice from me, just looking to see what everybody else recommends.
I will say one other thing, my hair is straight and impossible to do anything with. With DD we have a good time styling her hair. That is really a joy compared to my mess!

What do you mean by fuzzy? Is there fuzz from clothing getting caught in it?

When it gets that frizzy look, put some cream conditioner in it. Carol's Daughter makes a hair milk that is also wonderful. You can get it online.

By fuzzy I mean the curls aren't defined and it's all just kind of frizzy. I think I'm going to try some Black Vanilla spray conditioner and Hair Milk once I get them ordered. We've been using Carrot Oil after his olive oil and/or conditioner and I love how it makes his hair look (and smell!) but I think it's maybe not doing the trick anymore. He's almost 2, so maybe his hair is changing to a drier state.

Thanks for the advice, Karyn. I went to Sephora and bought Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla leave-in conditioner and the Hair Milk ($$$!!!), and it was worth it. The conditioner keeps the frizz to a minimum and keeps her hair much less dry during the day. I still have to figure out how best to use the Hair Milk; she seems to need a lot of it to have much effect. Her hair flies away now much less. I'm thinking of buying the Loc Butter to use when I'm styling her hair for outings.

You can buy Carol's Daughter at Sephora? Now I'm in trouble...I managed to stay clear of the website, but my sister has been trying to drag me into Sephora at the mall for months...

Our Sephora didn't carry the complete line, aclee. You'll have to check what yours carries, maybe you're not in such big trouble after all.

Yes, Gals and Guys, Carols Daughter products are AWESOME! I would try those Jen. As another poster said, I know they are expensive but they last and are natural. One bottle of hair milk lasted me about 5months for our little one.

Fadzi - After you comb out your DD's hair with the Black Vanilla, immediatly put in the hair milk. I have th best success with the hair milk after her hair is dentagled and slightly wet. I use about a quarter size of the Hair Milk to get a good effect on DD's Hair.

Also try the Tui Smoothie Conditioner. I put that on once a week and use a conditioning cap on her while she plays in the tub, then rinse. It really conditions well.

Golly, I sound like a rep for CD. But I love the stuff.

Hi

Glad to see more hair post, our DD's getting a dry scalp. I think she may have cradle cap on top of her head. I have been using CD products and I like them but I am wondering if I need to use something all the time on there. I use it daily, the Vanilla spray conditioner and we have cut back on washing too but her scalp is dry. Any suggestions on that???

Thanks
