What moisturizer/lotion are you using?

I had just been using coconut oil on Caleb. I use it on my DDs, one has a skin condition and the coconut oil really helps it. His skin had been looking fine, no dryness, but today I was changing his outfit and was horrified by how dry his poor little legs looked! It must be the winter air kicking in. So what are you all using, and how often?

I used to use coconut oil on Devin until I found out that prolonged use could cause dryness. We use Hawaiian kukui nut oil 2x/week after bathss which is normally wonderful in Hawai'i, but when we were in San Francisco for 3weeks and his skin got severely dry even when I applied oil daily.

I'd love to hear what others are using during the winter as we will be in San Francisco again for another 2weeks for Christmas.

We use the J&J one with Shea butter in it. We use that soap too. And hair products from curls - love them all. DD#2 laughs when getting lotioned up... It is a riot...

The air here dries out D's skin, too. We use Bert's Bees lotion and I put it on him every morning when I dress him and every night when I get him ready for bed. Unfortunately, he's not laughing! He does not like to sit still that long! But it works on the dryness.

Sending you some Bay Area vibes, Supa. Sorry you're homesick!

DS has SEVERE eczema and we have been using Cetaphil creme for over a year now. I recently tried the Wal-Mart brand of the same thing and I think it works even better! (And it's half the price!) You might also try using bath oatmeal. (Again, Wal-Mart brand works great!) DS is old enough now that he dips his little hand in the lotion tub and helps -- it's too cute!

OakShannon--Thanks! I've actually been thinking about using Burt Bee's lotion since we're already using their conditioner.

Supa--I, too, miss the Bay Area!!!

Our DS had dry patches of skin and our doctor recommended Eucerin lotion. It's not a lotion specifically for babies, though, so I hadn't thought about using it. I actually use it myself and already had it at home. It has worked well on our DS and the dry skin is gone. I use the Eucerin Plus Intensive Repair (there are different formulas).

We use the WalMart version of Eucerin but I also experiment with pure cocoa butter. When it's really bad (like winter), I'll toss a bit of olive oil in the lotion to use too.

DD also has very dry skin (mild eczema, too) that worsens noticeably in winter... I have tried pretty much everything I see in other people's post here, but in my case the only thing that would help is VaniCream. (Non prescription, but I can only find it at a pharmacy...) A very thick layer, don't rub it in, let it soak in, twice daily.... especially RIGHT after bath...

So just another option... every one has to experiment to find that one "just right" option for their little one...

I was very anti anything with petrolium but I do use a little aquafor occasionally. Our typical routine is oil in the tub water...I can't even begin to tell you all how this has changed Ty's skin. It's amazing...so amazing. It's even been great for MY skin. It feels awesome. Just a little squirt (I use African Royale Hot Six Oil) in the tub does wonders.

Then when he gets out we carry him in a towel to his shanging table, but don't rub or pat him dry at all, he just dries off a little where the towel hits him. We use Palmers Cocoa butter lotion all over...a LOT of it. Massage it in really well. On the dry spots (elbows right now from crawling) I'll also add a little aquarfor to the mix. His skin is in great shape. I can't say enough about oil in the bath water!!!

Aclee, I've always wondered about oil in the bath - do you have to clean the tub then to keep it from getting to slick? I'm really thinking I don't want to scrub down the tub all that much. Josh is really into drinking the tub water right now, so oil may not be great now, but I'll remember for later!

Right now, I'm using this aloe lotion my mother got from Aruba. I've upped his lotioning to twice a day, and that has really made a diffence! I'll keep the other stuff in mind if it gets dry again over the winter, I know my skin is horrible in the winter.

We use the Jason's lotion with Cocoa butter in it as a daily moisturizer. We buy it at Central Market and watch for it to go on sale -- although it is not unreasonbly expensive even at regular prices.

Hand & Body Lotion by Jason Natural Personal Care Products

I noted that DD started to get some dry spots on her back and upper legs, so I started using oatmeal (plain old regular Quaker oats) in a knee high stocking in her baths. This is fixed the dry spots and doesn't mess up the tub.

I read about it as a remedy for itchy skin on the yahoo group adoption hair skin and was amazed it has worked as well as it has.

Last week I finally bought Burt's Bees Baby Bee Buttermilk Lotion, but will be returning it tomorrow. I didn't realize it has fragnance in it and it is heavily scented. Instead, I will buy Oils of Aloha (Hawaiian)Kukui Nut Oil Lotion w/o fragnance.
