another hair question

How can I detangle/get lint out of my daughter's hair without harming it? Our 8 month old daughter is mixed AA/CC and has hair I would call curly. When you first wash her hair its easy to comb and lays in small curls on her head. Her hair isn't very long, at most 4 inches when pulled straight. After a few days it gets tangles and somehow also gets straighter on top while forming tight little curls in back. Sometimes I wet it and comb it through-between washing, but I feel like I may be hurting her hair. Especially difficult is that she gets tiny pieces of lint into the ends and then her hair twists around the lint and creates a tangled ball of lint/hair. My dh thinks we should wash it more--but I've read a lot of things that say this will just dry it out. Any suggestions?

washing it more will dry it out and it will get even more tangled. Baby Love does make some excellent products. I would spray it with the detangler spray every day, it's much easier to comb that way and should stay nicely. My two girls are both biracial also. Her hair texture will change as she gets older and she'll get used to a daily hair routine. It hurts to be beautiful, doesn't it??

I'd suggest that you oil or put a leave in conditioner in it daily. Because your daughter's hair won't hold in the moisture as most CC folks' hair does, it's gonna tangle and seem this way.

If you'll use a spritz bottle of water on her hair first, then apply the conditioner or oil, it'll help it comb through. Another good leave-in (I use it for my son's hair too) is made by Garnier called, Fructis (small green bottle). It's a leave-in conditioner; not as heavy as an oil, and I alternate this with the hair oil.
My babies (some aren't so baby anymore).......are all AA. Even then, each of them has a different hair texture and require a bit different treatment at times.

Sincerely,

Linny

Tangles

I use Paul Mitchell leave in conditioner and spray with water every day to comb out and get the tangles out.

XOTLA--

My son's hair is just the opposite. His hair is curly on top, but straight in the back. I know we need to get it cut, but it will be his first hair cut and I'm not wanting to!

update

hi everyone:

just wanted to let you know i got some detangler type stuff from Carol's Daughter and it has really worked out well. My daughter's hair is much easier to come and looks less frizzy as well. Thanks for the suggestions!

Also though her scalp is really dry now. I don't think its related to the detangler per say, she has had dry scalp before, but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for the dry scalp?

thanks again,
