Hair Question

Hi, our daughter is almost 2 months old and her hair is starting to get a little dry, can you go ahead and put stuff on her hair and if so what did you use? I was using Johnson's hair/body wash but stopped that and use Huggies with Shea Butter wash now but it still seems to be getting dry.

Thanks

Sounds crazy, but we actually have been washing her hair with conditioner (no shampoo at all). We also wet it and apply fresh conditioner to it daily. Still gets frizzy, but it's not so dry.

Here's my question. I finally put her hair in puffs on Sunday. I plan to keep them in several days to a week if I can. How do I moisturize her hair while it's in a style like this???

Also, for her skin, we use pure shea butter or coconut oil daily. Got it from Snapaholics.com, but I'm sure there are other places as well...

Hello,

We stay away from all products that contain alcohol which is super drying - mostly the ones like J&J and Huggies (even if they claim to be "moisturizing"). All natural shampoos like Burts Bees don't dry the hair and also smell really nice! Then finish with an all natural conditioner like Jason's Conditioner for kids and you should be set...

Veggie girl - I would use a good spray-on conditioner (we use Carol's daughter's Black Vanilla) to moisturize while in puffs...

I use jojoba oil on my son's hair, but only a drop. He doesn't have a lot of hair but it gets dry and the jojoba really helps. It's nice because it's not a greasy oil (unless you put too much on).

I get it at Trader Joe's. Do you have one nearby?

I was told to not use Johnson products because they don't work on African American hair and dry everything out. Miss. Jessie products were recommended to me and I've gone to an ethnic hair supply store and asked for products similar to that brand when they didn't have it (you can order it online).

Veggiegirl--The only thing with puffs and leaving them in over night is the hair may become tangled and matted more easily as she sleeps on them. If you do keep them in more than a day I suggest combing them each day. You should be able to do this without having to remove the bands. If hair is untidy and coming out of the bands, you can do one puff at a time by undoing one band, comb that one puff and put back in the band and move on to the next puff. You can moisturize the hair as you do each one. Another suggestion if you want to keep puffs in longer than a day--twist or braid the puffs at night and put something on the ends to keep from coming loose and then untwist the next morning. This will keep them from getting tangled.
