Are the waiting time frames usually correct???
Hi everyone!
So DH and I are finally waiting officially! When your agency told you a time frame that you would be waiting for your baby was it correct? Just curious about this I know this is a popular question but I could not find a recent post on this ![]() We are in our agency's AA/Biracial program. We have been told that we will be parents by the end of the year! There are only about a dozen in the program and only a few (maybe about 3 or so) open to full AA including us. Does this wait time frame sound about right? What were your experiences? Thanks everyone! |

Hmm, I just replied to a post like this a day ago, anyhow we were told we were in for a maximum 6 month wait. As it turned out once our profile was out there we were chosen two weeks later and had our son placed with us a week after the match.
We were open to all races, genders and a lot of other situations maybe others are not. This may be why we had such a quick match. Our son is AA and completely healthy. |

Similar with us. We sent for our information package in Oct. 2005, finished our homestudy and all our paperwork on January 2006 and had our two month-old daughter home in March 2006. We were the only couple the agency had at the time that would take a baby of any race (our baby is AA) and any gender so our wait was short.
Hope yours is too! Blessings, Gaby |

We we placed within 1.5 months after being in the books.
I think we were placed so quickly because: 1. the agency was large with may different offices in several states2. They had a specific AA/BR program 3. There were less than 15 families waiting in the minority program and not all were open to full AA. Good Luck! |

quick here, too!
Yep- this was the same for us. For our 1st adoption we were told 9 months and he was in our arms 3 weeks after we were "in the book". For our 2nd adoption it was about 4 weeks from the homestudy update until we were driving to he hospital to pick him up. Good thing, too, because I HATED jumping each time the phone rang during the wait!
Both our sons are full AA and my understanding from the agency is that not all PAP in the AA/BR book were open to full AA. Natalie |

We requested only AA babies. The longest wait we had was when we specified gender. We actually by-passed a couple of situations (one was already born too), because we wanted another girl (thinking this was going to be the last baby!!! LOL). Our wait then, was 18months.
However, for our first and youngest baby (now)......we waited three months for the first; something like four months for the youngest. We prefer 'already born situations', so that limited us, and we aren't wanting to do very open adoptions. I suppose that may have limited us as well; but still, not that much of a wait. Now, as we wait again, I think fees are what may be limiting us more...followed by the fact that we already have three 'babies' at home; then followed by the fact that we're much older than most couples. My estimation would be that your agency is right....you have a VERY high chance of bringing your baby home by the end of the year!!! Good luck! We were with an agency in our state and they told us it would likely be very quick, but we waited 8 months and then were matched with a scammer who got $2100 plus. We became aware of an atty who does adoptions and he matched us in about a month and then Athena (she is full aa) was born in about another 2 weeks. So it may depend on who you are with. That first agency btw says they did over 200 adoptions per year and that would mean they do a lot of adoptions, but we weren't even presented before that first match. AND they told us we were at the top of the list for the aa program. Apparently they just didn't have a lot of emoms.

Well, I am the minority here! Our first adoption, we were told 1-12 weeks. Three months would be the max. We left that agency after 4 months and got a match elsewhere. And I found people on here who waited evn longer with that agency. For our second, they would not quote a time frame at all. Their website said based on the previous year anywhere from 6-18 months, but that is for all races. We only waited 6 weeks but another girl on here waited for more than 18 months for a CC baby from the same agency.
It is really a crap shoot...

We didn't place with an agency per se. I signed up with several referral services, and registered with a couple agencies that had no registration fee.
Our homestudy took forever, so I went ahead and signed us up with these services, and then we were presented for a few situations that didn't need the HS to be done yet. That did limit things, because a number of AA situations are due very soon or baby born. Once our HS was done, we matched through a facilitator the next week. Baby was born two weeks later, now we are waiting for ICPC to clear.

Sorry guess I will try harder next time before I ask a question... Thanks everyone for your replies...Sometimes I feel like I have so much mommy energy that I can not wait another second (because as most of you can relate we don't start wanting children the minute our HS is done-it starts way before that). Hearing your experiences make me feel like I will have a place for that excess energy soon and it WILL happen Thanks again!Last edited by cbrink7 : 09-10-2008 at 08:42 AM. |

Our agency estimated the average wait time to be between 1-9 months in the AA/biracial program. We waited 4 weeks
I STILL cannot believe I have my daughter and she's 8 months old! I hope your wait is just as short!

We were told 1 week to 2 years. We got DS in 3 months. We were only open to BR so that's why it took that long.

We're waiting for full AA (preferably) or BR and this is our 6th week waiting. I'm with Marci's agency and I was really hoping for her timeline!!

We waited for just shy of 2 months from the time our profile was done. Our agency's program requires that all adoptive couples be open to any race or gender. APs also have to be willing to participate in open adoption to at least some extent. We were open to a lot of things, which I think helped. Our agency also connects with other agencies in other states so I'm sure that helped shorten our timeframe, too. I think we were told our wait could be anywhere from 1-12 months, but would probably be no more than 6 months, so, in our case, the time frame they said was correct. Even though we were fortunate enough to have a short wait, though, I truly think it was the longest, most painful two months of my life. Hang in there and congrats on officially being waiting!!!

My situation was similar to some. We were first with a terrible agency. Had nothing but failed matches and broken promises. Signed on with a facilitator and although we were in their main program and not their AA/BR program (since we were also open to CC babies) we were told it could be up to 2 years, but probably more like 6 months since we were open to race, siblings, and older babies up to 3 years. Our dd was born 4 months after being in the books.
When we finalized her adoption, we told our atty that we would call her when we were ready to go again since we didn't overly want to deal with ICPC the second time around. She said, "I bet I call you first". And she did. We were shocked and so not ready yet, but we said yes and my older two are 18 months apart!
