Layla exists!

So last Sunday, I get a phone call after I dried my tears from reading about the Chapman family and it was my agency. They had been trying to reach me all day. Rowan had the phone off the hook most of the day. They had also sent me mulitple emails, which I don't check on the weekends. For some reason I imagined adoption agencies only worked Monday through Friday.

Why were they calling you ask? To tell me they had a baby girl to refer to me. Layla exists! I'm still waiting for pictures, lab results, and that official letter from the head of the adoption unit in Vietnam to make the referral official in the eyes of INS.

Layla was found on June 3, which they've decided to use as her birthday. So my baby will be 11 weeks old on Sunday. At nine weeks, Layla was weighing 10.4 lbs and was a little over 22 inches long. So Layla is big by Vietnamese standards and is in the 10 - 25% percentile on the American charts for both height and weight.

It's all a little surreal. This has been a journey that was started back in 2002, but God is good and everything comes together in His perfect time.

I'm so confused! I think I'm congratulating you for placement though! What do you mean they found? Was she lost, or they literally, found a baby?

Anyway, if it's good news...CONGRATS!

Yash is adopting from Vietnam. Most of the children available for adoption in Vietnam are abandoned by their birth families before becoming available for adoption.

CONGRATS!! I have been praying for days that this moment would come. I so glad you did not throw in the towel! You are an inspiration to all of us. I can't wait to see the pictures.

Wow, I had no idea. If the babies are abandoned, how do they handle TPR etc? I know that in some international countried they have problems with people saying children were abandoned etc...

Yash...I'm so happy for you The name Layla is SO cute!

I'm not sure how Vietnam does the process but in Russia and China children become on a national database for six months in China and 9 months in Russia. After that, termination of parental rights happens and the children become available for international adoption. If birth parents change their minds, they are always welcomed to come back to take the child but this rarely happens, mostly because the birth parents had plenty of months and maybe even a couple of years to change their minds.

Congrats! I didn't know that is how international adoption worked either. I know that when we were looking into adopting from China they said that the baby may be as young as 6 months and they rarely had children younger than that. I am sure each agency is different but that makes sense to me now. I love they name Layla too! That name was in the running for our baby girl but we decided on Lily. Keep us posted! God is Good!

Thank you everyone for your prayers and well wishes!!

I'm not sure when Layla will come home. Christmas would be great since Jory did ask for a sister for Christmas. I'm sure it will be more like spring of 2009. I feel confident that she will be home before her first birthday.

I don't know all the details of how Vietnam handles all aspects of TPR. But a notice did go out to radio and TV about a newborn being found and no one responded to the ad.

I never expected a referral of a baby this young, but I happily accepted it. But unlike other countries, the time between referral and travel varies GREATLY!!!! I've been talking to a woman who has been waiting 8 months to travel. AYE!!!

Linny, you made me laugh. You're so right. God is always working. Thanks for the reminder.
