Talking Why CC adopt AA or biracial kids?

Hi, guys!
My name is Maria. I'm CC and my dream is to adopt an AA boy not now of course, because i'm too young and still student. Now i'm trying to collect information on adoption.
Can you tell me why CC people adopt AA or biracial kids?
Does social worker ask you ( if you are CC) about your reasons for wanting to adopt AA or biracial kids when you go through home study?
Is this question asked by somebody at all? By agency, your relatives, friends and so on. What do you tell them?
Thanks for your time!

Good luck one day :-)

There are many reasons why we adopt children, a lot of this kids in the CA system are AA or biracial. I adopted a AA/Latino child because I was open to any race :-). Your social workers will discuss all the reasons you are chosing to adopt, but it is easier to adopt from foster care if you are open to race.

Well I can answer that. i'm not from CA but in my state it is definitely possible. but, there are risks involved. with a younger infant, most likely, the parental rights have not yet been terminated. which means, while the child is in foster care or maybe even a pre-adoptive home (a family who will adopt when the time comes) the social worker may still be working on reunification with the birth parents. and the court may rule for more time, more visits, reunification, or termination. it is ultimately up to the judge what he/she thinks is best. most infants are not legally free for adoption until several months, if not years, later. my son was 15 months when the termination happened. and now we are waiting on paperwork to adopt him legally.

but there are certain levels of risk you can request. if you feel uncomfortable with the idea a child might go back to a birthparent, you can request a very low legal risk placement. which means the child is most likely not going to be reunified. this usually happens if there is severe mental illness, substance abuse, or incarceration.

so, the short answer is, yes, it can be done. but there is no guarantee and of course, you may have to wait longer. although, we only waited 3 months for our son. but we, also, were very open to race and disabilities. good luck and way to go for thinking about it now! it is an awesome and so worthwhile experience!

We adopted two infants from foster care (both 8 months old at the time). But that was because they were part of a sibling group/groups.

You are not going to find too many infants in foster care that are available for adoption, unless there are special circumstances/special needs involved.

It may depend on where you live...in my state, we "heard" it was impossible to get a newborn thru foster/adopt. but my friend in NC did just adopt a newborn biracial boy thru foster care (birth mom had relinquished at the hospital). my friend in CA is getting "recruited" to do foster/adopt as well....and was told that there were plenty of babies to adopt.

GOOD LUCK!
