Is $16,000 in fees high when adopting an AA infant?
Hi All,
I received a call from someone today about an AA baby boy who is waiting for a family. They said that the fees would be $16,000 including the legals in Utah. That seemed kind of high to me, but maybe I am wrong. I don't see how we could afford those fees with our current adoptions in progress, but I thought I would ask the "experts" here. This is more of an inqisitive post than anything because it would require a miracle for us to do this right now. Not that God doesn't work miracles, but I dont' know that this is His will for us. Thanks! ~Rachel

It could be considered a little high. Does that include everything? Attorney, bmom expenses, medical, etc.? Our total adoption (thus far, there is talk of some medical expenses that we may end up having to pay which would significantly increase the cost) is about $15,000. However, this covers home study, agency fees, post placement visits, court fees, attorney, etc. If you have already completed your home study, it does seem kind of high to me. Not sure though.

I consider that high no matter what. Our infant placements were both nearly half that. |

I think it's about right. I'd say $14,000 would seem pretty normal to me so $16,000 doesn't seem over the top.

My Wife and I are adopting a AA girl from an agency in Utah and that is the exact price. I bet it is from the same agency.

We may be moving to Texas. DH has applied and made the panel (like a final cut) for a job at NASA. It would be in Houston. Where is TX are you?

About Right
Hi!
Our adoption cost WAY more than $16K, but that's another story. $16K sounds right to me, from what I've read and experienced. Many people are able to do adoptions at a lower cost, which is great, of course. However $16K is not bad. ![]() -R

We are adopting an AA infant (we live in California and the baby is in D.C.) and our fees have come out to about $30,000.
Good Luck! |

$16000 sounds great to me!
Don't forget that there's the adoption tax credit for each adoption. ;-) Good luck with whatever you decide! |
