Do any of you know of a family who is not white adopting a white child?
I know that transracial adoption is usually the other way around, but I was wondering if this occured at all, and the frequency of occurance.

I don't know the statistics, quite frankly. I do, however, have a friend who is an AA woman married to a CC guy. They have adopted two children....a CC boy and an AA girl....She says it is very weird when she is with her son sometimes because people can't believe she is his mom, because she thinks it is pretty "rare." Of course while I don't know the frequency, I am sure there are CC birth parents that would be very open to placing their children with people that weren't CC. Good luck!

When i was in my pre-adopt/foster class, a couple there had a family member who had adopted a sibling group of four---the kids were white, the adoptive parents black.

Several months ago, there was a person posting here who was in the process of possibly adopting a child (not baby) who was white, while the poster was AA.

I don't know what happened in the outcome, though. I suspect the stats are not very high; though the opportunity to adopt any race should be available to all, IMO.

I do know a couple where the wife is white and her husband is Mexican, and they adopted a white baby. Also, I know of a Native American woman adopting a sib group of three blonde haired kids who looked whiter than I do, but according to their birthmother, they were 25% Native American, and according to some tribal law or something, they could only be adopted by a NA family, so they sat in foster care for like 6 years...it is really dumb, if you ask me, especially since many Native American families are underprivileged in the first place and don't have the resources to adopt....it's so dumb.

Anyway, I think the only other cases are where there are older (like teen) white kids or big sib groups and they are just trying to find any family, but I think that the main reason that many white families adopt kids of other races is because those kids need a family more, and since there are many waiting kids who are non-white, I am sure that many non-white adoptive parents prefer to adopt children of color.
