We specifically chose names for our kids that had Spanish equivalents. Thomas can be called Tomas and Elizabeth is the same in Spanish. That way they could live in a Spanish-speaking society when they are older, if they choose to do so... my dh felt very strongly about this. His name is Brett and when he lived in South America for many years it was hard because there is no equivalent in Spanish and it is a hard name for Spanish-speakers to pronounce -- it comes out sounding like "Breck" but with the 'r' rolled in the Spanish-style.
